Coroner: Houston drowned after cocaine use

Whitney Houston died from an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub, but the "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use" were contributing factors in her death, the Los Angeles County Coroner said in an autopsy report released Thursday.

Houston, 48, was "found submerged in bathtub filled with water" and "no trauma or foul play is suspected," the coroner said.

The toxicology tests found other drugs in her body, including marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril and the allergy medicine Benadryl, the report said. But these drugs "did not contribute to the death," it said.

The final coroner report is expected to be made public within two weeks, the coroner said.

Houston died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Well now the nay sayers can shut up, the woman was a heavy user of drugs and in the end they took her life. I know everyone wants to pretend she was not a failure but in the end she was just a failed druggie, nothing more

Yes, but she was way more than you will ever be. The old adage if you cannot say something nice then say nothing would apply to you right now.

Regardless of what ever person that say's something negative about her thinks, she was not a failure. She was 48 and lived and did something most can and never will be able to do. I don't glorify how she lived her life as an addict however I do know it is a disease that takes the best of them and even on a bad day she added up to or amounted to more in her short 48 years than most will do who even out live her. Sit call her druggie and crack user it does not take away anything GOOD she's done. Just know that when she died millions tuned in and cried and cared when you negative ones die how man will mourn you? how many will know you even existed? Only judgement that mattered in Whitney's life was her maker. PERIOD!

So why don't they just come out and say the hard truth is that she had a heart attack brought on from her cocaine use, and slipped into the water and drowned. So much for her "rehab". And what really sticks in my craw is that governor Christie felt it was appropriate to fly the flags at half staff in her honor. Just last week the drummer and founding member of the Doobie Brothers passed away from cancer. He was a success in the music business both as a musician and a business man.He was a NJ native as well. He was a good family man who chose his family over career, and never a word was said about that from Christie.

I am sure it isn't easy trying to recover from drugs, alcohol or whatever someone is trying to break away from. If you think it is so simple, get addicted to something and let me see how quick you recover. You never know what people are going through or what causes them to continue down this road when they already know it may lead to her death. I so glad to know that only what you do for Christ will last, because people will sing your praises one minute and as soon as you fall they are carrying the cross to crucify you. Get a life and let her rest in peace!!

There is every possibility that she fell asleep and drowned and didn't suffer a heart attack from cocaine. It's possible... doesn't mean it happened.

It's sad but it is what it is...You have to be around a fiend to really understand what the battle is like for them. I know too many people that have either lost their battle to their demons just like Whitney did & some who are still fighting them. The truth is that MOST people that get hooked on Cocaine can't beat it. I'm glad and proud to say I never got into that, and a large portion of the reason is because I was scared it could turn out like this. RIP Whitney

That is the problem with people who love this life and put all of their treasure here on earth. Age makes us weak and frail like a flower our leaves wither and our flower falls. Things that were once new don't thrill like they did at first yet we don't have anything else to chase so we continue to chase what we know. Don't love your life here because it won't last long. Store up for yourself treasure in Heaven. Ask Jesus Christ into your heart and He will direct you and show you how to do this. Ask Him to save you by forgiving you of your sins. Mean it in your heart truthfully and you will be saved.

She is dead. Get over it and move on. None of this dragging out the skeletons from the closet does anybody any good, not Whitney, not her family. Only the fanboys benefit, because they cannot accept that their hero fell prey to cocaine like so many other Hollywood celebrities, and now this will help fuel their conspiracy theories.

Other drugs identified in Houston's body were marijuana, alprazolam (Xanax), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) and diphenhydramine (Benadryl), but they "did not contribute to the death," the report said.
No they just made her think she could breathe underwater.

Well, she made her own choices. She seemed to love being stoned, and if it caused her life to be shortened, then more power to her. Nobody should mourn her death...she lived the life she wanted.

She never beat those demons. The people around her were in denial. Ms. Houston dislpayed very obvious signs of a drug addict, but because she was a celebrity she got a pass. She trully lived the life of a rock star. So sad for her mother and daughter.

I was shocked to hear a blatantly racially prejudiced comment a few minutes ago in The Situation Room. A CNN reporter said that Houston's cocaine abuse should be a wake up call to cocaine users, and added: "Particularly among blacks, we have to be honest here". I checked online and found that cocaine abuse among blacks is only fractionally higher than among whites, and is lower than several other racial groups.
CNN, please don't sweep this under the rug, and correct your reporter's incorrect remark!
