Whitney Houston died from an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub, but the "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use" were contributing factors in her death, the Los Angeles County Coroner said in an autopsy report released Thursday.
Houston, 48, was "found submerged in bathtub filled with water" and "no trauma or foul play is suspected," the coroner said.
The toxicology tests found other drugs in her body, including marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril and the allergy medicine Benadryl, the report said. But these drugs "did not contribute to the death," it said.
The final coroner report is expected to be made public within two weeks, the coroner said.
Houston died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
FULL STORY
Seriously, who is shocked that drugs where found in her system?
ITS JUST LIKE AMY WINE HOUSE AT LEAST WHITNEY DID HER DRUGS IN PRIVATE
It is sad that COCAINE USE CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEATHS OF MANY CELEBRITIES; NOW CLAIMING WHITNEY'S. IT DOES NOT SAY THAT "COCAINE" WAS FOUND IN HER SYSTEM! RATHER, COCAINE USE CONTRIBUTED TO HEART DISEASE, WHICH LED TO HER DROWNING! MEANING, SHE HAD A HEART ATTACK THAT CAUSED DROWNING, WHICH LED TO HER DEATH! YA DIG
And this is Breaking News? CNN,you continue to go down the tubes-NEXT
It is breaking news when we finally get an official answer from the coroner.
You clicked the story, knowing by the headlines what it was about. Then you read it. So you get no mileage or empathy from your obtuse complaint. Grow up, or go to FOX.

This is what LMD has been doing for years... reads a CNN article then insults CNN for publishing it. What's the problem? CNN concisely gave the facts of what's been released. Should they simply ignore the story and not report it. LMD is one of the biggest idiots with his constant, cliche comment.

She did some coke, got into the tub, her heart gave out and she drowned. I knew they would find a whole slew of drugs in her.
i doubt that, it was more like she had coke in her system, yes, but xanax knocks you out so she prob. fell sleep and drown from the xanax.
not particularly surprising. especially since she was acting skitched the days leading up to it
No. she git dunkey punch by Allah.
Coke and grass... Grass, or if you're implying marijuana, cannot kill you. Sad though, Coke and Xanax, they have serious potential for abuse. Person by person basis.
Why do these celebrity drug screens take "weeks" to come back. Where I work we get a comprehensive drug screen back in 3 days.
She had Flexeril, Xanax, Benadryl, THC and cocaine in her system. Wow, some good all that rehab did.
It takes longer for drug results to return from an autopsy than from a person who has not assumed room temperature...different way of processing the bodily fluids.
let's don't go thru this again
the woman is gone
makes no difference how she went
she is gone!
let her rest in peace
It makes a difference. Maybe, just maybe someone will learn from her example – and if they do, that's the difference it makes. If they don't learn, they just might die way to soon like Ms Houston did (God rest her soul).
@Steve – yes, it does matter how she died. While she is being held up as some sort of goddess and special star, she was junkie who did drugs in front of her kid, was barely fit to be a parent and died of self abuse. She wasted God given talents that were amazing. She was not a tortured soul, she was a junkie. She is not the role model and the pomp and ceremony given to her is better spent on real heroes.
Who knew that around the same time as Whitney's suicide that there was a woman who induced labor of her 3rd child two weeks early so her dying husband could hold his newborn daughter while he took his last breaths...??? anyone?
She was always classy, looked classy, dressed classy...and everything was great.
Until HE came along.:(
She was better off with Eddie Murphy. I thought they were a cute couple.
She was drowned by sea men. Big conspiracy in the works right here. Come now, and demand to know the truth of this so called "drowning."
Flexeril didn't contribute? I'm surprised because I've taken them before for back pain and it knocked me out cold. If a person slid under water after taking them then they'd probably drown. Add to the Flexeril: coke, Benadryl, Xanax, and weed. - What you get is the prime reason she never even realized she was drowning. This was more like suicide.
Where can I get some Flexiril?
It's George Bush's fault.
No, it's OBAMA's fault! Everything is Obama's fault, don't you know that? 🙂
not Bush's fault....Eisenhower caused her demise.....
Sounds like she fell asleep in the tub due to medication & didn't awaken when she started to drown due to her history of drug abuse which caused enough heart damage to result in cardiac arrest as she drowned. Complicated, but kind of a perfect storm.
Medication????
Why mention other drugs. She got high on cocaine and drown in the bathtub. End of story. Shame.
Why mention the other drugs? Simple; to make the cause of death sound even worse than it already is. Its like being unable to ring the bell. The ME says it was just the drug cocaine involved in the cause of death but when people like Jane V. throw around the information about the other things in her system; whether they contributed offically or not, it give people, the illusion that if one drug caused it the others were part of the cause too. People stop separating the two correctly. Sensationalizes the story by making it sound even worse. God knows the woman had a problem with addiction and it played a part in her death. But at least report the death and its cause accurately without trying to sensationalizing it by adding and twisting facts for your own reasons.
Well, at least it's not the fault of white people.
