Coroner: Houston drowned after cocaine use

Whitney Houston died from an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub, but the "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use" were contributing factors in her death, the Los Angeles County Coroner said in an autopsy report released Thursday.

Houston, 48, was "found submerged in bathtub filled with water" and "no trauma or foul play is suspected," the coroner said.

The toxicology tests found other drugs in her body, including marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril and the allergy medicine Benadryl, the report said. But these drugs "did not contribute to the death," it said.

The final coroner report is expected to be made public within two weeks, the coroner said.

Houston died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Whitney Houston is horrible role model for young black girls. But its a long shot to expect for their community leaders and that President of white big money crooks to tell them that.

Her preferred method was to freebase cocaine, it's much better than crack, and so much more expensive – more her style. When her death was reported, this is exactly how I told everyone I knew how she will have died, except I thought she may have mixed Herion, but nope, just lots of Cocaine and booze. Who's next?

What a tragedy, sudden and unfortunate loss for Ms. W. Houston's family. Unfortunately, Society is under False Belief and Perception that one's Recovery from substance and/or alcohol abuse is easy, but speaking from personal experience, it isn't.
As a Recovering Alcoholic with seven (7) years and four (4) months sobriety, it wasn't until I went through my third
program (long-term) did any of it began to make sense. In theory, all I have is "JUST for The Day" which Ms. W. Houston was unable to see. One should not judge and one will not be judged; but for the many Graces and Blessings from GOD have We all been given another opportunity to get it right.

Bottom Line, our lives were predestined prior to conception and was put on this earth for a reason and season . For you judgers, your Season is much closer than you may realize.

My prayers are out for the Houston family. May GOD continue watching over the Houston family.

@faith: how depressing your life must be, thinking no matter what you do, or how you do it, you are doomed to some preordained, cookie-cutter existence, all based on the wagging finger of a father figure from thousands of years ago.. i feel sorry for you..

The lesson is that drugs do not discriminate. They kill with equal opportunity for all. If you let them.

Cocaine was a contributing factor, but not xanex, pot, benedryl and flexiril in her passing out and drowning in the tub... Hmmm... Does that sound right?

I agree with Matt. Nothing anyone can say can take away her beautiful talent. We all have struggles. God will be the one to question all of us later. All of us have sinned and only Jesus can pay for our sin. You (everyone) needs to pray forgiveness of their sins of Jesus and ask Him to live inside them (change) them forever.

Instead of downing her for something that everyone struggles with, why dont you praise her for the music she made. Whitney was a good person at heart, so she made some bad choices, who doesnt? How about morning for her daughter and her parents and the millions who got to know that great part of whitney. No one is perfect, and no one ever will be. It doesnt matter how she went, it matters what she left behind. Why dont you ppl get that through your heads.
