Coroner: Houston drowned after cocaine use

Whitney Houston died from an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub, but the "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use" were contributing factors in her death, the Los Angeles County Coroner said in an autopsy report released Thursday.

Houston, 48, was "found submerged in bathtub filled with water" and "no trauma or foul play is suspected," the coroner said.

The toxicology tests found other drugs in her body, including marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril and the allergy medicine Benadryl, the report said. But these drugs "did not contribute to the death," it said.

The final coroner report is expected to be made public within two weeks, the coroner said.

Houston died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

She left behind a legacy of amazing music and show of talent, but she also will have a legacy of being a very famous junkie who repeatedly embarrassed herself publicly.

A wasted incredible talent, but her legecy will mention her abuse and embarrassment. No question.

Is very sad that some people dare to judge the life of other. No one's perfect. Respect! She could be the mother, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, cousin, friend of any of those whos been mocking on her. She was a person like everybody, with good and bad moments, nobody knows whats in her interior,in her soul, her mind, her heart. She makes no harm to anyone of u,and I bet that she regret the suffer, that her disease caused to her love ones. So please, let her rest in peace.

Few people come to know what ugly things fame and notoriety brings. And, even, when we watch them fall we find it so easy to blame them. Sure, people make choices everyday, but most don't have to make lifes choices with the pressure of the world on them.

A little girl from New Jersey with a voice of an angel and a dream in her heart. Raised singing gospel but switching to pop, she was deemed a diva selling out to white folks, being smugged by the greats who she admired.

I don't care what you all say...yes, she had a God-given gift in her voice, made millions, and CHOSE to blow a HUGE chunk of it on cocaine and who knows what all, in the process wrecking her voice, and ultimately having it make her go unconscious under the water thereby drowning. Yes, nobody is perfect, but we DON'T ALL have that struggle....her life was wasted and she passed too soon...and it's a pathetic and sad end. Maybe some good can come of it if people learn from it and change...but she could have done so much more with what God gave her!

Was any cocaine found in the police investigation? I heard about various pill bottles but nothing was said about cocaine. If she died immediately after using it, then it seems there should have been a vial or something left in the bathroom or bedroom. Makes me wonder if someone was with her when she died or tampered with the evidence.

    ~continued

A beautiful lady with a whole lot to offer came to question herself, her talent and her worthiness. There has to be something wrong with me, to have all these people who love me and I'm still not happy. She's not the first to turn to drugs and she won't be the last.

And when I look at her, I see the battlescars that only Hollywood can inflict on ones soul, but when I look deeper I can still see that little girl from New Jersey and the voice of an angel and dreams as big as a mountain.

    I believe in you,
    Hope

A lot of us had some fun with our comments today, and a lot of them went too far. I have to wonder why most of the comments that crossed a line are still there, but replies to them that specifically pointed out the mean nature of them got deleted.

A sad business all the way around. She had a beautiful voice, such a tremendous talent, but it was, regrettably, squandered away. Sad for everyone.
