Coroner: Houston drowned after cocaine use

Whitney Houston died from an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub, but the "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use" were contributing factors in her death, the Los Angeles County Coroner said in an autopsy report released Thursday.

Houston, 48, was "found submerged in bathtub filled with water" and "no trauma or foul play is suspected," the coroner said.

The toxicology tests found other drugs in her body, including marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril and the allergy medicine Benadryl, the report said. But these drugs "did not contribute to the death," it said.

The final coroner report is expected to be made public within two weeks, the coroner said.

Houston died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Killuminati put cocaine in her food then drowned her.

You have to be naive to think she died "accidentally".

It is truly sad the lack of respect people are showing on here. It is these comments that keep people sick with addiction in the first place. I am sure that each of you making negative or sarcastic comments are perfect right? Maybe if people were more supportive of those with addictions and not so judgmental then maybe people would have an easier time getting through it. It is hard enough for an ordinary person to fight addiction, let alone a celebrity where every move you make is judged, scrutinized, and ridiculed. People should really be ashamed of themselves.

It's a story that is just being "broken" i.e. it's just coming to light... it doesn't necessarily mean big news as so many assume.

This makes no sense. So she drowned, but how did the atherosclerosis affect the drowning?

She had a heart attack...that caused her to lose consciousness...when you lose consciousness in a bathtub, it's possible to drown.

Few even care, this is old news. Let's parade around Jon Benet's parents again this year and forget about Whitney. Please stop reporting tabloid news.

So, are they saying she had a cardiac arrest from the cocaine and heart disease? Marijuana, Xanax, Flexeril and Benadryl are all sedating medications. With all that in her system, I would have thought she had respiratory arrest. Also, I thought the initial report from few weeks back was that she didn't drown, that there wasn't enough water in her lungs to say she drowned. With cardiac arrest you could still be breathing and drown. I think someone paid someone off to claim it wasn't the prescription drugs that did it.

Its no surprise. Everybody knew houston was a drunk and junkie. I bet bobby brown can take credit for making her a drunk and a junkie. Oh well, its croaked. Time to move on!

It's wrong to put that on Bobby. He may have introduced and enabled her, but everyone makes their own choices. It's called free will. You can't blame others for choices you make...

This report makes absolutely no sense to me as someone in the know. How can someone die of accidental drowning in a tub without a cause? She either hit her head, had a heart attack from coronary artery disease/cocaine use, acute cocaine intoxication, or from the Xanax found in her system. Someone does not drown in a tub without a reason. Their natural respiratory reflex & fight or flightr response would have caused them to breathe or try to pull their head from under the water and avoid drowning. The cornoner needs to do a better job than this. This reports leaves more question than it gives an answer as to the cause of death imo.

DUH! There were no reflexes due to her being under the influence of her drugs. They knocked her out to the point where she had no reflex, therefore slipped under the water and drown. Not brain surgery, "as someone in the know."

My thoughts exactly. It makes no sense until they clarify the reason for her complete incapacitation to the point of no involuntary reflex action.

Did the coroner not just say that she'd had a heart attack due to atherosclerosis? A heart attack can come on at any time in a person who is predisposed to it. Even if you separate the cocaine issue, the cocaine contributed to the heart problem, and the heart problem contributed to the heart attack, which contributed to her drowning. Heart attacks come in all shapes and sizes...some people have mild pain, some people have massive pain and lose consciousness, and then there's everything in between. The point however, is that she used drugs that contributed to her death, even if it had been months and months before. He also stated that based on the level of cocaine in her body, it appeared that she'd used it shortly before she got into the tub. It's not rocket science...the coroner was pretty clear in his report.

Surprising...yes, but it was not due to drugs. Just an accident. You drama Kings and Queens out there. Shame on you! It was a plain old accident by a person trying to get their life together again. To bad, she didn't get the extra chance, but God bless her and her family!

It's staggering how many people still defend the use of drugs. Right until they're dying breath.
