Whitney Houston died from an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub, but the "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use" were contributing factors in her death, the Los Angeles County Coroner said in an autopsy report released Thursday.
Houston, 48, was "found submerged in bathtub filled with water" and "no trauma or foul play is suspected," the coroner said.
The toxicology tests found other drugs in her body, including marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril and the allergy medicine Benadryl, the report said. But these drugs "did not contribute to the death," it said.
The final coroner report is expected to be made public within two weeks, the coroner said.
Houston died February 11 in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the day before the music industry gathered for the annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

shes free now and living with God. he will judge her not us. take the log out of your own eye before removing the splinter from someone elses eye.
Isn't she in the other place?
Why is the assumption that she is "living with God"? Sounds like Satan won this battle...
That sounds like it's coming out of an automaton.
Count me as someone who has very little sympathy, except for her daughter. If you choose to abuse your body and psyche with all kinds of illegal and legal drugs, you're going to pay the price sooner or later. Now, whatever psychological prison she was in, I don't know; I don't know if she sought help and quit or if she never sought help. But even someone with those types of issues understands the downward spiral they're on. Did no one around her care? Did no one around her dare to intervene? The cause of death may be "accidental" according to the Coroner, but I think there are actually a number of people around her who are responsible. Like Amy Winehouse or Michael Jackson, you live a life out of control, the odds are you're going to die. Period.
well we should all be as perfect as you.
Everyone dies John. I'm no Houston fan, not my style, but I have to say this. We can celebrate her talent and learn from her mistakes. Along with Betty Ford, Sigmund Freud, Elvis and many many more including 17th century artists who we worship today. Houston is no Mozart but to judge a person entirety on an addiction is foolish in my opinion.
Personally, because her singing wasn't going very well in the previous year of concerts, she was probably afraid that her voice wasn't going to be there when she was supposed to sing in front of her peers and she probably got so consumed with fear that it led her to consuming everything in sight. It's what some might refer to as a form of suicide. Even for most drug users, that's a big combination to consume. Most use one or two, including alcohol, but that many? That is a LOT!
You had to known that drugs were involved. Have you ever thrown your passed out drunk'en buddy into the swimming pool? Well, they wake up, get out, and chase you down.
Sadly , she damaged her system , heart problem from cocaine recent dose. and other drugs in recent past and drowned. She wouldn't have drowned without the cocaine part which is very sad.
Really?!?!? WHOWOULDUVTHUNKIT?!?
She went on a coke bender, was up all night and took some Xanax to come down and get some sleep.....in the bath. I had a friend who did the same thing but was behind the wheel of a car when I killed himself and an innocent in another vehicle. Sad, but common with addicts.....drugs to go up and drugs to come down.
People should have told Whitney that Crack is Whack. Dang you, dang you all to he11
I have heard of people ODing on less drugs than these. Maybe no single one was a dosage strong enough to cause her to lose contiousness but in combination it could easily happen. Unusual I think, though, because its both upper and downers, I figured most people prefered one or the other. Terrible to see her go down so far from where she used to be.
I guess she ended her career on a HIGH note
I'm here all night folks, enjoy the veal
wow ive heard of people who do that in movies and stuff but not in real life. but didnt we already cunclude that drowning was part of it? still, sad.
I know that a lot of people argue that marijuana is safe and should be legalized, but everyone I have ever known (patients of The Meadow's/Sierra Tucson etc.) that has, or had, a problem with Xanax and cocaine started with the green, smelly stuff. Just my experience...
google "gateway drug" and see what you come up with...
Cause of death may have been cocaine induced but if she were drinking, the xanex would have been the impetus for the drowning.
"Crack is whack, crack is cheap."
Bye drug addict, abused your fame and now you payed dearly. Hope it was worth it to do that to your kids.
Crack is wack
