Iraqi woman beaten in her California home dies

An Iraqi woman who was left brutally beaten in her Southern California home with an apparently xenophobic note beside her has died.

Shaima Alawadi, a 32-year-old mother of five, was taken off life support Saturday, said the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization that advocates for Muslim civil liberties.

She had been on life support since Wednesday when her teenage daughter found her unconscious in the living room of their home in El Cajon in San Diego County.

"During the initial stages of this investigation, a threatening note was discovered very close to where the victim was found," Lt. Mark Coit of the El Cajon police said.

Authorities would not specify what the note said. But Alawadi's daughter said it threatened the family to go back to Iraq and called them "terrorists."

Police said a similar note was left outside the family home earlier in the month, but the family did not report it

    Beating a woman to death or anybody for the sake of protecting ones racist/beliefsof ignorance. Is just the direction that this country is going, what kind of sick individual could do something like this is beyond me.... I have several freinds from diferent parts of the world and when they hear of these things it angers them to the extreme. They leave violence to live in peace, just to find themselves still living in violence in the worst of ways. Hopefully investigators will bring the person/s to justice with no plea deal!! The type of people that support such actions of there own or from others should be sent over to there victims countrys and left to live 5 yrs for every count against them in the american court of law!!!! Its called SCARED STRAIGHT!!!!! And left there to learn there lesson, my heart goes out the the living family family members and hope that they find peace in there hearts once again

      @Mmmmmm, I was thinking the same thing. Was the woman becoming more westernized et.al? Perhaps a male family member was implementing his own twisted version of Sharia law......

    Too many racist people,too much from the OLD SCHOOL BOYS CLUB,ya know what I mean.It's pretty sickening when people come here from uncivilized 3rd world countries to become fatalities in a so called peacefully civilized nation.Sounds pretty hypocrital ha,it should be,too many people in high places smeading hate and bigotry to their ignorent sheep.Your candidates running for the highest office in the land are guilty of it as well,just listen,it comes from all their mouths,don't deny it,its there for all to hear,real hypocrites preaching to the choir...

    Spot On Superman! I so agree w/your post! The line about how they come here seeking peace & end up finding more violence, truly resonates! If an American neighbor commited this act, we absolutely must come together as a nation in support of this family! However, I must admit that I also flashed on thoughts similar to Mmmmms for a moment! I would bet SDPD is also looking at these 2 scenarios! Scenario# 3: Jealous boyfriend, &#4: Random invasion, gone awry (note to throw cops off track, in all but hatecrime scenario)! I do hope Any & All person/s responsible will be found & prosecuted asap! While the hate crime angle is the most disturbing, this woman should not have died for any reason! It wasn't an accident, the woman was beaten to death! A completely manmade scenario!!

    It is not unknown news for these people to kill there mate when they want out of a marrage. I know of two cases and read of many more. The show, that was displayed for the press, hhhmmm. Who leaves a note tobe caught.
