Lawyer: Federal hate crime charge against Trayvon shooter a 'challenge'

Bringing a federal hate crime charge against a neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot Trayvon Martin will be "a challenge, to put it lightly," the victim's lawyer said.

Daryl Parks, an attorney for the Martin family, told board members of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) on Saturday that prosecution on the state level stands a better chance.

"Most state laws tend to be better for the prosecution of state crimes. And that's why we see the federal authorities expressing, although gently, in their statements that they can only do so much if there's some type of race statements involved. The state officials don't have that problem," Parks said.

"I think the focus is not necessarily a federal arrest over a state arrest. We want an arrest, period. And I think that the state aspect of that is the one that's most feasible, most attainable in this matter."

Meanwhile, worshipers in cities across the country will wear hoodies to church Sunday in honor Martin, who was wearing a hoodie when he was killed.

    the great scourges of world:
crimes and neglect against women, children and elderly; crimes and neglect against the poor, oppressed, the marginalized and homeless; murder; racism, abortion and h0mo 6xual activity; unfair wages, lack of protection and unjust treatment of the
workers...these great, sinful acts against neighbor assault heaven and their crys reaches the very throne of God...these are crimes of great injustices and of high offense which destroys nations...corroding its vitality,
prosperity, and are called to be merciful to one another...and to each other... as God is merciful...and has been merciful to you...

@Mmmm. God didn't draw those lines on our maps! We did. And it isn't God fighting over these international borders... it's people! Some of whom have the audacity to recruit God on their side of the line.

there are two great commandments every soul should remain in compliance with their day to day activities: to love God and to love neighbor...every tragedy and transgression of today has to do with outright rejection and violation these two commandments.

...not to mention "And to Adam he said: "Because you listened to the woman's voice...cursed is the ground on your account. With the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you die." And to the woman he said "i shall greatly increase the pain of your pregnancy...and your craving will be for your man, and he will dominate you."
God's blessings are spoken of often. His curses? Shhhh. Mums the word.

@Mmmm. True. If everyone were to love God and love their neighbor all would be well. It's kinda hard to do when 3/4ths of US are beating our swords into high-tech weapons instead of plowhears though. So many, they even get exported.

It wasn't a "white pride" moment. It was making fun of white men giving black men a bunch of casinos in exchange for forgetting about their own ancestors selling them into slavery. Errr, wait. Those were N. American Indians. You get the gist of it though.

ban hoodies??? but we never read an article or ever had tragedies of white man shot while wearing a hoodie...for a white man can wear hoodies, do wear hoodies and do not get shot and do not loose his life...aside from the fact that hoodies are teenwear for persons of any color or culture...

@joey: i agree. i don't even know why we need 'hate' laws.. while it holds us back as a society, like depending on oil, hate is not illegal. it disgusts me, but i'd defend anyone's right to think.

crime is crime. particularly heinous crimes should get stiffer penalties, but that should be up to the judge. if the judge is wrong, replace the judge. more laws, all saying what's already been said, fly in the face of freedom.

when someone does one bad thing, how can they face a dozen charges?

you devil advocate...he profiled the victim: hoodie aka crimminal...a innocent night walk that every american does aka supicious...and because his gender, color, race did not "match" the demographics of the neighborhood the victim was discredited and targeted and is a clear case of hate crime.
