Multiple fatalities in shooting at California college, Oakland police say

[Updated at 3:32 p.m. ET] A suspect in the shooting was taken into police custody, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

[Posted at 3:21 p.m. ET] A shooting at Oikos University in East Oakland, California, has resulted in multiple fatalities, a spokeswoman for the Oakland police said Monday.

Oakland Fire Department Deputy Chief James Williams said there are several ambulances on the scene and officials are assessing the situation.

"The shooter is still at large," spokeswoman Johnna Watson said. "We are interviewing the witnesses right now to try to determine if this person is known to them."

    The Virginia Tech Murders were perpetrated by an Asian Guy so was this tragedy . Yet white people consider them " Great Citizens " Asian guys murder massive numbers of people at schools and businesses , yet no one blinks an eye.

      i think you are confusing a few incidents as an epidemic. Clearly, more people are killed by blacks, whites, hispanics, than asians every year. That is a fact.

    This was a religious school. The shooting arose out of an argument about whether Adam had a navel. If he were born, he would have had a navel. If he were made from clay, he would not have needed a navel. But god might have given him a navel so that he would look like others born after him. It is all very complicated and important.

    For you anti-gun people, there are a lot more gun owners in the US than you think. Your opinion may not represent what most people feel so don't act like it is.

    Second, the vast majority of the tens of millions of gun owners are law abiding citizens that just shoot paper or clay targets as a hobby. So lumping a criminal with them is really not that different from saying that since the perp was Asian/Black/Latino/Jewish/Muslim/whatever that all people of that type are criminals.

    It is still stereotyping so you are not nearly as enlightened as you think you are.

      There is a difference between a target shooter and someone who wants to keep his gun on 24/7 365. "Water proof guns, so you can be safe in the shower!"

    While these innocent children were being slaughtered........ The doors to Oaksterdam University in downtown Oakland were cordoned off by yellow tape and blocked by U.S. marshals. Agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration carted trash bags of unknown materials out of the school to a waiting van.Arlette Lee, an IRS spokeswoman, told reporters that agents were serving a federal search warrant but said she could not otherwise comment on the purpose of the raid.

    Probably should have been fighting real crime instead of this gross misappropriation of our tax dollars. US Marshalls service, DEA, and IRS. Wow.

    Once again both ends of the spectrum want to blame a tool (a gun sitting on a table will always just sit there, it's the human who puts it into action) instead of the individual – those of you blaming the gun are the problem, your failure to take ownership of your own responsibility & actions are why your liberties will be completely erased long after guns have been abolished – sooner rather than later they will take something away YOU care about & I'm sure then too – you will relocate the blame.

    I am saying a prayer for the victims & their families.

    5 Kills... Damn, this guy needs to step up. Did TJ Lane lower the bar with his moronic peashooter? If they want to do a good shooting, they gotta get a glock or a beretta. Avoid revolvers and shotguns due to the impractical reload times. Automatics are a must-have.

    Why hasn't this story been on cnn tv yet? I'm not a big fox news fan but they've been airing the story on fox news tv for 30 minutes but still no mention o cnn tv. As a journalist with 30 years experience I've never seen a station scooped this bad.

    I think we have to take the stigma from people who are mentally insane and help treat them. Whe have to stop turning a blind eye to parents who have impaired children. Alot of the time the parents did not know what to do. Their own resources are limited and when these children become adults the parents are even more at a loss.
