USS Enterprise heads to Persian Gulf

The carrier group is heading to the Gulf and our CNN national security experts note that this is a typical Navy maneuver that happens as carrier groups rotate to new positions around the globe.

This is the final deployment for the Enterprise, which will be inactivated and eventually decommissioned, according to a Navy press release.

This does come at a time that relations with Iran are fraying. We called the Navy today to ask if there is any connection. They did not get back to us right away. If they do, we will update this.

Do you know anything about the mission of the carrier group? Do you have a view on U.S.-Iran relations? Comment below.

This story's headline is wrong!! It's the Arabian Gulf not the Persian Gulf. The US Govt and US Navy refer to the Gulf as Arabian not Persian. The Arabs are our friends and the Persians (Iran) are our enemies, thus being named the Arabian Gulf. Look at any official Govt posting/briefing.

The Iranians are our enemy.. LOL!!! The Iranians are not the enemy. The political branch that governs Iran and stole the last elections hates America, not the people. No wonder why you can't make the difference between the Red Sea, the Arabian gulf and the Persian gulf, since they are all the same. Let me guess.. No not buy any Persian rugs. They are our enemy. Instead, buy some Arab rugs, our friends.. Snurfffffff.. want chome?

  3. Navy Mom!!

CNN Shame on you for asking the public about information on the Enterprise!!!! Our kids, husbands, fathers brothers sisters aunts uncles & friends are on this ship!! Their SAFETY should always be the most important thing you worry about. & asking for information from the public is NOT keeping there safty at the for front!!!! All our military deserve your respect & demand that you keep there safety in mind everytime you report on them & there location!!! Because you could be putting our loved ones in harms way with your report.

With all due respect to our service personnel and their families, information about the fleet and ships involved is available from a number of sources, including detailed information on Wikipedia. Information about the mission of the Enterprise has already been made public by the Navy and the Pentagon. The ship is a replacement for the Carl Vinson, which has left the region heading for the Bay of Bengal. That is no secret; you can find that information on the web. My opinion is your family is safer with the public (and Iran) knowing this information than otherwise. Evidently, the Pentagon agrees with that assessment as they have made this information public. Only by making the force strength public can the United States convince potential adversaries of the cost of conflict.

Navy Mom: brainwashed drama queen of the military propagandists. She probably refers to all hands aboard as heroes, too, rather than simply people employed by the military.

Like any traitor, they will be held responsible if any harm comes to crew members based on any information they publish. This is a promise.

There will always be an Enterprise, at least in my generation and probably the next. Probably a Starship. Just saying.

Honestly you could post live video of any US Carrier on the internet as any potential attacker of a carrier would have to have a head full of brain tumors to even consider a direct assault.

Once this ship is decomissioned, we'll have to wait for someone to invent Warp Drive before the next one pops up...

I'm a Navy Dad twice over–my daughter and son-in-law are petty officers in The Vinson carrier group. Larry S, you are very clear about mission policy. Captain Spock, you are disrespectful to point out Navy Mom's naive understanding of mission management. When you either serve or have relatives serving, you STILL won't be allowed to insult those who do.

to the inconsiderate person who is poking fun at navy mom.... That navy mom is MY mother and my brother is serving on that ship... yes their location is disclosed TO AN EXTENT... but what they are doin is kept secret AT ALL TIMES... the information you can find on the internet,(and yes even on CNN) is the information that is safe to know... The reason it is detremental to our Enterprise family is because some idiot like the ones above start taking potshot guesses at whats going on and next thing you know MY BROTHER is in danger because some idiot thinks he knows what hes talking about and something happens... And you go on and think nobody, country, military would go for a frontal attack.... then stop and think about Pearl Harbor and 9-11...., IDIOT! Kindly STOP putting my brothers life in danger with your ignorance... thank you!

to all of you guys out there i was deployed with the enterprise last deployment and my husband is out there now..from first hand experience i do know there there is more information out there about the strike group than needed to be but everything we hear now usually comes to us a week later than when it actually happened and not to mention the fact that most of what goes on out there 90% of the sailors who are living it do not even know whats going on...they are out there to do their job and keep us safe and i think they are doing a damn good job and thats all that matters!

I know she's the smallest of the flat tops left but I'm sorry to see the old girl set out for the last time. I was able to see her up close a few times while I was still active duty. To all the men and women aboard – fair winds and following seas. To all of those at home – your loved ones will be back before you know it. God bless to all!!

What they don't understand is OPSEC. The public only knows so much about where the ships are. They don't understand what those who would hurt us have as far as weapons and intent. I'm a Navy mom too, and my son is PROUD of how closely I hold to OPSEC. I will not condone anyone who would put any military members life at risk.
