The carrier group is heading to the Gulf and our CNN national security experts note that this is a typical Navy maneuver that happens as carrier groups rotate to new positions around the globe.
This is the final deployment for the Enterprise, which will be inactivated and eventually decommissioned, according to a Navy press release.
This does come at a time that relations with Iran are fraying. We called the Navy today to ask if there is any connection. They did not get back to us right away. If they do, we will update this.
Do you know anything about the mission of the carrier group? Do you have a view on U.S.-Iran relations? Comment below.
A Vulcan nerve pinch'll settle this right square. Show em' Spock!
Carrier task groups rotate every six months unless really needed(Desert Storm) at the time a conflict arises. Count the number of carriers are in the fleet both west coast and east coast that's how many task forces they are for deployment. Since this the USS Enterprise's last deployment before it is decommissioned in either October-November this year. The USS Enterprise before this one was the most decorated ship in the US Navy.
Wait til Cap'n Kirk has the helm.
Can you imagine the U.S. Navy without an Enterprise? Stop naming carriers after politicians. The first ship of the next class should be named Enterprise...CVN 78 should be named the USS Enterprise, not the USS Gerald Ford – our enemies are going to make fun of the names of our aircraft carriers! These are capitol ships, not libraries!
I wish 6 month deployments were still the norm. Unfortunately, with the SECNAV's plan to have "1.8" carrier battle groups in the gulf at any given time, and Navy manning being slashed dramatically, the 6 month deployments are typically stretched to 8-9 months nowadays. Sailors don't really have a choice in the matter, because with this economy, most of them are just happy to have a job.
Oh....ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...................
Camille, why do you say that it's a possible sacrificial vessel for a false flag op?
Go to work. Haven't worked for years. It's called quitting your job without quitting.
Anyone know how often two carrier groups have been in the Persian Gulf at the same time?
This will be only the fourth time that we have had two carriers in the Gulf now that the Lincoln is joining Enterprise.
Not very.
"LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF ALL WHO THREATEN IT"
Word.
Why don't you bomb Israel? They do have nuclear weapons!
Israel never held 52 Americans against their will for 444 days. Lest we forget Luiz ! Good luck on your final deployment Enterprise. You have served America well !
Be careful USS Enterprise......you might get attacked by Israeli planes (just like the USS Liberty).
Everyone already knows the facts. Worlds most decorated air craft carrier. USA oldest aircraft carrier. Last voyage to middle east Sea of Hormez. This ship is so old it has a full blown machine shop to build it's own parts. Ship has 8 reactors which as above post stated correctly would be cost prohibited to remove and make a musuem. So simple math time are you going 2 risk your newest aircraft carrier or use your modified oldest aircraft carrier as a show of force which from what I can see tentions with Iran are at it's boiling point.
8 vs 1
So "The World's Most Important News Network" is crawling around asking if anybody knows anything? They "called the Navy, but the Navy didn't call back?" Maybe they had the wrong number. What a bunch of jerks.
I know!
I suppose we're supposed to do their investigative reporting them....
Why even bother?
"The USS Enterprise is going to the Persian Gulf.
The end."
At one time during Desert Storm there was three carrier task groups in the gulf. They could not put anymore cause of the coalition force that was present at the time number over two hundred ships, we also had four battleships(Missouri, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and Iowa) present there as well.
Wonder how many cat shots the Big-E has made in her lifetime?
we could ask a former xo, turned co, turned civilian !
@Barry, they can't attack us with planes we sold them. The planes all have secret switches so we can shut them down remotely if we have to.
We're not that dumb.
NO ..WE R not dumb...but your comment is.....
