The carrier group is heading to the Gulf and our CNN national security experts note that this is a typical Navy maneuver that happens as carrier groups rotate to new positions around the globe.
This is the final deployment for the Enterprise, which will be inactivated and eventually decommissioned, according to a Navy press release.
This does come at a time that relations with Iran are fraying. We called the Navy today to ask if there is any connection. They did not get back to us right away. If they do, we will update this.
Do you know anything about the mission of the carrier group? Do you have a view on U.S.-Iran relations? Comment below.
Why in the worl would someone who is actually privy to the ships mission, post it on CNN. I mean come on!
As a former sailor stationed on the USS Enterprise, its time for decommissioning is due. Great ship, but she has endeared many years of service. I'm sure a new USS Enterprise will be built to take its spot in the fleet.
why do you think it's sent there....for it's last battle
I think you mean "endured".
I think you mean "endured".
I'd like to see the decal "NCC 1701" on the next Enterprise. Technologically premature, but I want to see it.
I believe that I read somewhere that the name will be retired as well, this time.
Common business tactic. Give a man an impossible task then use it as a pretext to fire.
In this case it behooves us to remember "a horse that farts will never tire. A man who farts the one to hire.
Dude what?
Dude, w t f are you talking about?
Oh snap.
We in Colorado should really consider secession if the Idiots in the East attack Iran..We have had to follow along with too many ill conceived and illegal wars..Time to run our own World...Let the Israeli controlled Eastern States go it without us and without our resources...
Sure, and we'll take our money (no, you can't keep the dollar...that belongs to us!), and our military, surround your 'country' with a large fence and gates and make you go through customs to get to Wyoming. Seriously, does that sound like a good idea to you? Haven't thought the whole secession thing through, have you?
@David Crosby: So then Coors would be subject to foreign import tariffs when shipped to the remaining 48 States?
Beautifully stated,
The Israeli scammers, who continually put their own kind in control via the press, just continue to self-patronize themselves and work the dumb US populous into going to war for them. WHEN are we going to stop the full scam of Israel fighting by proxy through the US military?
WHy does CNN constantly report that Iran is on its way to making a nuclear bomb, all you are doing is feeding the panic of both the US populace and the world as a whole. Even US intelligence agencies report they don't believe Iran had been working on a Nuclear weapon since 2004. But of course reporting the truth does not increase your ratings .... hopefully the people will realize news corporations like this one are only giant propaganda machines, and both the employees and the writers should be ashamed of themselves to work at such a pathetic and manipulative company.
@steve: i find it more comfortable to believe they already have a couple. the ayatollah keeps them under his bed. they got them when the ussr collapsed, and keep them as a final f-u-charlie if they start to lose a ground war.. more comforting because they haven't used them yet..
And how often in the past has US Intelligence get it right?
In these current times of "fiscal restraint" wouldn't it make more sense to continue service for the Big E rather than fork out for a newer, albeit technologically current, model. Look at the B-52. Retire the Big E when you retire all the B-52s and we'll be getting our money's worth.
Nuclear wessels.
Now you know you F-ed up, Iran... Friggin Enterprise?! We built that for Russia. You sir... are no Russia!
We can only hope that if the big "E" is decomissioned the navy plans to build a new nimitz version of it down the line or something better. That carrier is part of american history not to mention science fiction. My thanks goes out to the big "E" and the crews that have served aboard her over the years.
I have a pic of myself standing on the flight deck, with the big E in the background..I toured the Enterprise. What a legend and crew. Man..those bunks are small. Stay safe..hope it goes smoothly.
if Iran really wanted nukes, don't you think they'd buy them from one of their ally neighbors?
False flag decommissioning to start the war? Sure hate to be a soldier on that ship.
CNN's blog pages S U C K !
To boldly go where no man has gone before!
Wait... sorry... wrong USS Enterprise.
