Parole denied for Manson

A California panel denied parole for Charles Manson and scheduled his next parole hearing 15 years from now, setting up the possibility that he could die in prison.

Manson, 77, initially was sentenced to death for the 1969 slayings of actress Sharon Tate and six others by a group of his followers as part of what prosecutors said was an attempt to incite a race war. His death sentence was changed to life in prison after California's death penalty was overturned for a period during the 1970s.

I don't know what's more disturbing; looking at Manson's picture as he's alive and well 40 years after the pregnant Sharon Tate was murdered; or some of the commenters of this article addressing him as "Charlie" – like he's a drinking buddy or something.

I am glad he did not live in Mississippi. If he did he would probably have been pardoned by former Gov. Haley Barbour.

Nothing wrong with charlie manson. He is crazy so there is some justification for his actions there. It's the people pretending to be sane that I worry about!!! SInce ordering someone to do something tantamounts to the crime, then there should be a lot of politians being sent away for ordering the death of thousands of innocent people in the name of liberation and war. Just a thought

It amazes me that there are people who think that being forced to sit in a prison cell all day is somehow a "free ride".

Yes, it is a "free ride".....I HIGHLY doubt that Charles Manson would even WANT to get out after all these years.....where would he go, what would he do, who would support him??? I used to be a Correctional Officer and I KNOW for a FACT that people like him would commit another crime just to go back to prison......because after all.....that's 3 squares a day and a roof over their heads, right??? Paid for by whom????? He wouldn't get that if he were to get out...he'd be homeless or dead....yeah, he has it made in there

FACT – Charles Manson is not a murderer and has NEVER killed anyone, nor did he ever "order" any crimes to be committed on his behalf; it's a LIE. He has been a victim of lies and sensationalism, from the government and the media for over 40 years! Millions of dollars have been made off of the name 'Manson' and that money can only be sustained by the lies; for the truth is much less profitable. He is compassionate person just like you and me, and deserves to not die in a prison cell, because of the evil actions and cowardice of others.

Wow, if you believe that then you must believe in fairies and unicorns. You need to pull your head out of your A _ _ if you think he is not responsilbe for any of the murders. Maybe once you grow up a little your mind might mature enough to not be so naive.

He participated in the death of Gary Hinman (according to the coroner, the injury to Hinman's ear from Manson's sword in and itself could have been fatal) and the ranch hand, Shorty Shea. He also tied the LaBianca's up and assured them that they would not be harmed. He ordered the deaths of the other victims. If Charlie wanted out, why does he not attend his hearings? He is where he belongs. End of story.

Let's not forget Bernard Crowe (Lotsapoppa) - he shot him in the drug dealing and was shocked to see Crowe alive during the Manson trial. If Charlie wanted out, why does he not attend his hearings? He is where he belongs. End of story.

What I can't believe is how/why anyone could/would waste the time & funds required to even review this dirtbag. Anyone with one functioning brain cell would know immediately after Manson's very 1st parole hearing that there's no way this guy will ever be released.

db hit it right on the head – Manson's got "the life" & taxpayers are footing the bill – except he forgot to factor in the cost of multiple wasted parole hearings over the last 40+ years.....

And when California reinstated the death penalty, Charles Manson, along with his deranged followers, should have all been executed for their horrific crimes instead of the media "glorifying" these cowardly monsters, all of whom had nothing better to do than get high on LSD and commit senseless acts of murder !!!!

Denied for parole.....hmmmmm......is there REALLY anyone who would've NOT seen that coming?!? Since we are unable to legally execute him, let him rot in there..........Sadistic animals like him should be put down.......or at very least, caged for the rest of their lives........

I've read a lot of books on Manson but the best, by far is, "The Family" by Ed Sanders. This guy was way out there in a crazy time in our country. He's clearly a mentally unbalanced, sociopath that belongs behind bars. But, his story is fascinating, and gives us a good deal of insight into human nature and our society.
