Photo shows Pippa Middleton with man apparently wielding gun

A photo of Pippa Middleton showing her in a car with a man wielding what appears to be a gun in France is causing an uproar after its publication in the UK newspaper The Sun.

Paparazzi were taking pictures of Prince William's sister-in-law, who was in the passenger seat of a black Audi convertible as she was headed to a train station in Paris. The driver of the car wielded a gun, apparently pointing it in the air and then toward a photographer, who was following them and captured the shot, according to The Sun. It is unclear whether the gun was real or fake.

CNN's Matthew Chance reported he spoke to lawyers who said while it is unlikely that Middleton would face any charges unless it could be proved she encouraged the driver to point the gun on public streets, the driver could face charges of threatening with a firearm if French authorities wanted to do so.

The photographer who snapped the shot was "considering his options" about a formal police complaint, The Sun reported.

Middleton is the sister of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, who married Prince William last year. William is second in line to the British throne behind his father, Prince Charles.

Buckingham Palace told Chance it would not comment on the photo because  Middleton is not a member of the royal family.

The photo is causing a stir, in part because there have been problems with gun violence in France recently, including an attack last month that killed seven people, including four children.

The incident took place while security was being heightened ahead of France's presidential election.

It's France...not some Third World gun ghetto like Nigeria or USA...show that you are serious about civilization and gun control and put her away for the maximum 7 years.

I am sure if the driver of the car wasn't being chased by at least five cars of photographers and a moped, the thought of pulling out a toy gun would never have crossed his mind. We have to remember this is the same city where Princess Diane died because the media was chasing her. I blame the media for causing the situation and for printing pictures of what is a non event. The photographer had not even contacted the authorities, just his editors. More newspapers to sell....The media should step back and realize that this is a private individual with no public duties. Pippa has not run for office, appeared in any film, or done anything to warrant the amount of press attention lavished on her. There are many pretty young rising stars who would welcome the attention. The media should back away before a real tragedy occurs.

It's sad that all of the old WWII jokes about Italian rifles have been attributed to France over the years by people who don't know history. The joke was originally popular among WWII servicemen, but in regards to Italy, an Axis power, not France. France was our ally, and occupied or not, they were doing a lot to help the fight against Nazi tyranny. The French people were being terrorized, and it wasn't anything to laugh at. Italy, on the other hand, was doing everything it could to help the Nazis. It was Italy that the allied soldiers made fun of. It also doesn't help that Italy is the only major European country that has NEVER won a war outside of their own independence. Italians were notorious during WWII for being cowardly.

"What colour was the Italian flag in wartime??...A white cross on a white background."

"Italian tanks had 4 reverse gears and 1 forward gear in case they were attacked from behind."

"What is the smallest book in the world?...The Italian book of war heroes."

To be fair, it's really silly now to be making fun of either coutnry. They're both our allies now. These jokes were funny when they were appropriate, when Italian soldiers were shooting at allied soldiers. They're not so funny anymore.

It's 2012. Can't we all just agree to make fun of North Korean missiles?

I used to be a big fan of Pippa Middleton. After this incident, I think she is just another spoiled rich girl. Is this the extent of her contribution to society?

What gun? People are imagining things. The guy is pointing his two hands at something and holding something in between his hands - maybe a cell phone, maybe a pen. So stop imagining things and judging people when you are not certain 100% what you are talking about.
