Reports conflict on murder-kidnap suspect's death

[Update 9:52 p.m. ET] Adam Mayes - accused of murder and kidnapping in a case involving a Tennessee mother and her three daughters - has died, said FBI spokesman Joel Siskovic. There have been conflicting reports about Mayes since he was found after suffering an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday night in Union County, Mississippi.

[Update 9:43 p.m. ET] Two federal law enforcement sources now say that Adam Mayes - accused of murder and kidnapping in a case involving a Tennessee mother and her three daughters - was alive after suffering an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday night in Union County, Mississippi. One of those sources had previously said that Mayes was dead. A different law enforcement source had also stated that Mayes was dead. The two surviving sisters "are suffering from the experience of being out in the woods and from being kidnapped. They are suffering from dehydration and exhaustion, but appear OK," a federal law enforcement source at the scene told CNN.

[Earlier] Adam Mayes, accused of murder and kidnapping in a case involving a Tennessee mother and her three daughters, was found dead Thursday in Union County, Mississippi, and the two girls he allegedly kidnapped were found alive, two law enforcement sources said. The girls' sister and mother were found dead last Friday after being killed by Mayes, according to authorities.

One less criminal off the map. At least 2 of the girls survived this nightmare.

What was the purpose of this whole thing?
He shattered a family, traumatized two little girls, murdered another girl and her mother...for what?
    He destroyed countless lives.
    Nasty, grotesque, pos vermin.
    I'm glad he's dead.

I had read previously that he believed he was the biological father of the 2 girls that are alive? Possibly thats why he took them.

It's not something I would normally say, but I'm glad that pile of crap did himself in. At least law enforcement didn't have to waste bullets on him.
Do the girls have other family ? I would hate to think about them ending up in the syste, especially after all this.

Hi guys. I agree m.s.: I'm glad hes dead, too. But I wish it had been in the gas chamber, as I've heard that takes longest and is the most painful way to go. Those poor girls are going to have a lifetime of baggage, thanks to him.
