Boston University: 3 students die while on New Zealand sightseeing trip

Boston University mourned three study-abroad students killed in New Zealand while visiting locations where "The Lord of the Rings" movies were filmed.

A van in which the students were traveling swerved off a road and rolled over about 7:30 a.m. Saturday near the resort town of Taupo in the center of North Island, the school said.

The university, quoting a U.S. vice consul in Auckland, identified the victims as Daniela Lekhno from Manalapan, New Jersey; Roch Jauberty from Paris; and Austin Brashears, Huntington Beach, California.

Five other students were injured in the crash, including one in critical condition after being flown by helicopter to get medial treatment. Two of those were later released from a hospital.

  1. Accidents happen

8 students travelling in 2 vans, 3 killed and 5 injured. Sad enough. And as usual, no mention of seatbelts when students are involved.(sadder still)
Also, who was driving the van that swerved and ran off the road?

  10. Life happens...

Accidents happen, although some more tragic than others. Whose to say even if they were (even though not known) wearing sb's the outcome would not have been the same? I knew 2 ppl in two different accidents being the only ones to have their sb's on but were the only 2 that did not survive out of 7 ppl. I don't mean to type like I have no heart but the reality is it was their time. I guess I get confussed when ppl look for reason or fault. It happens, its life. The day we are born is the day we start 2 die.

Wrong. The day you are born is NOT the day you begin to die, it is the day you go-on living until about the age of 30, and THEN you begin dying.(unique among all animal species)
Did your father drive a turnip truck?
