Preacher, singer Marvin Winans carjacked in Detroit

Detroit pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans, who delivered the eulogy at pop star Whitney Houston's funeral this year, was robbed and carjacked at a gas station in his home city Wednesday afternoon, CNN affiliates WXYZ and WDIV report.

Winans, pastor at Perfecting Church on Detroit's east side, had just walked out of the Detroit station's convenience store and was about to pump gas into his SUV when four men exited the store and attacked him, he told WXYZ.

The attackers kicked him and took his wallet and his purple 2012 Infiniti QX56 SUV, he said. Winans suffered cuts and bruises to his face, hands and arms, and his pants were torn, WDIV reported.

“This kind of nonsense just has to stop ... it’s just the savageness of what’s happening in the streets. We just have to take a look at ourselves and say this has to stop,” he told WXYZ.

Detroit police are investigating, WXYZ reported.

Winans delivered Houston's eulogy at her February funeral in New Jersey. He also officiated at Houston's 1992 marriage to R&B singer Bobby Brown.

Took 4 of them to attack a preacher. Maybe if prison was chaingangs and punishment instead of workouts and hbo, we might have a little less of this?

I admire. How Pastor Marvin Winans. In all his Fame and Wealth. Stays loyal to where he comes from. That's a CHOICE. He knew the risk factor. His personal wealth. Has nothing to do with nothing cause. Truth be told. Only haters really care.

Detroit is a wasteland. They need to cut all taxes, throw out the unions and turn that city around.

Detroit is a wasteland in part because they don't receive ENOUGH taxes. When everyone with a good job moved to the suburbs it left almost no tax base, hence the crumbling infrastructure. There's not much you can do about it because the population remaining in Detroit has a higher than average proportion of people who live below the poverty line–and you can't get blood from a stone.I love Detroit, and was born there. I sure hope they can turn it around.

How does a pastor own a $65k suv? Isn't he supposed to be following in Jesus' footsteps??

Maybe he bought it like everyone else does, including you (assumption). Is he suppose to put on a tunic and walk all over Michigan to get the message out?

The collection plate overflowith with bounty for this "manofgod." If he was really good at it, he could be in Bakker's league. I've always wondered about the "nice" cars the majority of pastors own.

Black on black crime is 98% of crimes against blacks.

If whites would have attacked this gentleman, the press would be all over it. But since his fellow black people attacked him, he doesn't make a big deal out of it and CNN keeps the story small.

    Where is the outrage????

Black are like muslims. If they kill many of their own, no big deallio, but if one white man kills one of their own, holy crap, its going to be payback time for eternity.

"We just have to take a look at ourselves and say this has to stop"

I like this guy. He knows it was black on black violence, admits it, and wants it to stop. First step.

It's the white peoples fault this happened. Because between the chop shop the suv went to and the fence that gets the stolen items there has to be a white person involved. Right? Just ask Sharpton or Jackson, they'll tell you it's the truth.

This incident is a shame. He should move out of the city. Why start there when he has the means to leave. I understand not forgetting where you came from but that doesn't mean you have to stay there all your life. Crime is everywhere but it happens more in some big cities than other smaller suburbs. I say get out while you still can, next time you might not be so lucky.

Who cares what he was driving. If he was driving a honda accord it still doesn't make it right. I guess the only people that drive nice cars are crooks and politicians. This world is so blind. Sad times.
