A horse, a deer and a dog don’t belong in the water but, in these unusual cases, they were spotted miles from land. The people who helped them had to figure out some tricky logistics to save them. You’ve gotta watch these animal rescues.
Horse in the Pacific
A 7-year-old horse got spooked at a photo shoot in Southern California and ran into the ocean. The Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol spotted it two miles offshore. Watch how they towed it back in.
Deer in Lake Huron
It started out as a normal father and son fishing trip, but it had an unusual ending. They spotted a drowning fawn two miles from shore. See how the “Bayport Bambi” ordeal changed the dad’s outlook.
Dog in the Gulf
A kayaker went fishing in the gulf and ended up catching a dog named Barney. Sadly, this mystery has an unhappy ending. Learn why the dog was in the ocean in the first place.

Cares back then where getting the latest *album* 🙂 remember them? he he LOL
I don't think its accurate to refer to these animals as weird, just because they need help.
My husband and I run a licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility in So. Cal. One of our strangest rescues involved a Barn Owl that had entangled its wing in some fishing line that a local business nearby had tied to helium balloons to make an arch. It flew into a tree next to the 215 freeway where it got even more entangled so that it was swinging like a pinata over traffic. The local fire department brought a ladder truck but wouldn't send up any firemen so my husband went up and used their pike pole to try to catch the line every time the bird swung by. I stood off the freeway with a net in case the line broke and the bird ran into traffic. (People instinctually swerve to avoid and animal, often resulting in a crash.) He managed to reel in Pinata Owl who was tired but not injured. We hope we don't have to do that again!
Your husband is a kind hero. Nice story with a happy ending. Thanks for sharing here. -TB
