New documents shed light on Trayvon Martin killing

New documents released today shed light on just what might have happened when George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, 17, in Sanford Florida earlier this year.

An autopsy report revealed traces of the drug THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana,  in Martin's blood at the time of his death - fueling more controversy in the already heavily debated circumstances of the killing.

Meanwhile, three police reports chronicled Zimmerman's injuries, officer's first impressions of the crime scene and claims that he was assaulted in the moments before shooting Martin dead. An EMS report and a lab report were made public describing injuries Zimmerman sustained during the melee.

Also released was an FBI analysis of the controversial 911 call, which caused speculation around the country about Zimmerman's potential use of a racial epithet to described the  teen in the hooded sweatshirt.

Zimmerman has plead not guilty in the case, maintaining he shot Martin in self-defense during his shift on a neighborhood watch.

Bond for Zimmerman was originally set at $150,000 on April 20. Zimmerman's bond was revoked on June 1 and he was ordered to return to jail when a judge determined Zimmerman lied about his personal finances. A new bail hearing is sceduled for June 29.

Legally speaking, a charge of stalking requires a repeated following in the state of Florida. Zimmerman would have had to follow Martin on more than one occasion. There are other stipulations also which I won't go into. Zimmerman is not guilty of unlawfully "stalking" Martin, under Florida statutes.

    • Blah blah the wheel's off your trailer

You're wrong and mistaken! George Zimmerman did repeatedly stalk and follow Trayvon Martin! For example, at the onset of the incident, Zimmerman told the dispatcher he was following Trayvon then the dispatcher told him we don't need you to do that! However, Zimmerman ignored these instructions because on the same transcript, he told the dispatcher that Trayvon had fled the scene and had ran to the back of a nearby house! So how did Zimmerman come into contact with the fleeing Martin for a confrontation to ensue if he didn't continue to stalk and follow him? Let's face it, Zimmerman was the aggressor and he cannot claim self defense because he is responsible for this crime!

First off, the dispatcher has zero authority, second martin was running to was running to a house known not to be his. Third off zimmerman had been attacked before he shot the guy. Following someone is not a crime, attacking the follower is.

He followed him but lost sight of him. At that point rayon could have went on home or ran if he was so scared. Instead he lie in wait and confronted Zimmerman physically assaulted Zimmerman and ended up getting shot. Tough luck, but not M2

He disregarded the directions of a police office, which led to this sad incident. Stalking or no stalking he was wrong, stop making excuses for Zimmerman! I am sure if a stranger was stalking you (following) you would probably be apprehensive and want to defend yourself or get out of that situation. At the end of the day this could have all been avoided if zimmerman followed directions instead of playing detective.

@Pete Who's looking for trouble? You assume too much. It's a law in a good majority of the states for a reason and statistically proven to reduce murder and violent crime.

@ Crystal, agreed. As a former pot smoker i can honestly say pot makes a person less combative. So it actually has no bearing whatsoever with this case.

Are you sure about this? Can't the defense frame the kid on the wrong side of the law by using illegal psychotropic substances?

It depends on the pot crissy. And also, THC could have been a factor here because even though it doesn't make you combative, it sure as hell makes you paranoid!

When it's mixed with methamphetamine, which is becoming common, I wonder how much less combative it makes you. I have no experience to say one way or the other– just wondering.

      u nailed it there.

Zimm is guilty of Manslaugter IMO (not Murder 2)

but i suspect it is about 99% that he will be convicted in trial.

one reason – stupid proscecutor Corey charged M2, instead of Manslaughter.
she was hoping for a QUCIK plea deal for Manslaughtr here.

but just ike most things, Corey was wrong as could be on this topic as well.

One thing that continues to amaze me is how many witnesses testified to hearing cries pleading for help over and over, and all they did was call 911. It seems most of them are women, and calling 911 is helping, but the whole thing would have turned out so much better if they would have gone outside and tried to actually get involved.

    May 17, 2012 at 11:14 pm | Report abuse |
    • Oh, Yeah

Because women should ALWAYS jump in the middle of two men fighting....they DID get involved! They called 911! More people could have died with YOUR scenario!!

Thank you so much for your unbiased statement of events. I think what people are failing to see is the only fact we TRULY know in this unfortunate incident and it's that a young man is dead. Imagine if every person who ever was losing a fight decided to pull out a gun and shoot the other person. There would be way too many senseless acts of violence to count. Trayvon smoking marijuana has no bearings on the fact that being on the losing fight of a fight is NOT grounds to murder someone.

A lot less people starting physical altercations and less punks picking on smaller weaker people..

That's what would happen if they all were shot by the person they were beating.

Trayvon Martin is a 17 yr old boy who is now Dead, because of an overly zealous neighborhood watchman! No other reason! Zimmerman was told not to persue, but did anyway & this is the result! He had the gun & the advantage, he persued when told not to, he was the adult! I don't understand the people posting who want to make Trayvon the guilty party! Put your condemning selves in the role of walking quietly home(to your dads house), & being persued, chased & accosted by some1 you don't know! Would you fight back? Of course! Zimmerman put himself in this position & killed a boy because of it! If he'd just listened to reason from the 911 operator, none of this would've happened! He made the choice, he had the weapon & he was & is in the wrong! Trayvon is the victim here, not Zimmerman!!

It's unfortunate but it's not murder. If Zimmerman lost sight of martin it was over and martin could have been on his way. But apparently martin came back and started a physical altercation. And lost. So teach your kids not to beat on people in Florida.

      to Bubba:

look at all the FACTS out there.

for this issue here, listen to the phone recording with Trays girlfriend.

Martin did NOT "come back" to Zimm.

Zimm pursued Tray in Car, then on foot. Zimm went on foot, off the rodway, And into the courtyard area (where he was killed).

from girlfriend cell call, Tray was running towrds home. breathing hard. stopped running when he got close to home.

THEN ZIMM FOLLOWED & APPROACHED TRAYVON INSIDE THE COURTYARD.

Zimm was not attacked "going back to car" as has been claimed by Zimm & family earlier.

all this evidence has been put out there by multiple media outlets, if u want to research it thoroughly.

I just want an honest fair trail. Does anyone know if Mr. Zimmerman was tested for drugs after the incident? From what has been released, there still isn't enough evidence for murder.

How about depraved indifference? Cuz he sure was indifferent to the fact that he wasn't supposed to have a gun and follow the boy...and he was depraved

What do you mean he wasnt supposed to have a gun. He is duely registered with teh state for CCW and was legally carrying for his own protection. This CRAP about rules is just that. I dare you to show me anywhere it says a person can not carry a weapon for self protection especially in this neighborhood.
