NATO summit opens against backdrop of protests, foiled terror plot

The road map out of the war in Afghanistan is expected to be drawn up by U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders when they gather Sunday at the NATO summit in Chicago.

Against a backdrop of massive protests - and a foiled, homegrown terror plot that targeted Obama and others - the summit will open with NATO countries trying to figure out how to meet a 2014 withdrawal from an unpopular war while shoring up Afghanistan's security forces.

Security is expected to be tight at the summit following the arrest of three men, described by authorities as anarchists who plotted to attack Obama's Chicago campaign headquarters and lob Molotov cocktails at police during the summit.

Police insist there are no imminent threats to the leaders of more than 50 nations gathering at the summit.

Massive protests, anarchists plotting terror attacks. A great way for G-8/NATO Summit to commence.

Apparently the mandatory lauding of G-8 countries 'contribution' to the state of the world today and NATO's 'contribution' to the violence and strife doesn't work anymore.
    good morning all.
Folks are asking "what has NATO' ever done?

I would ask who is funding and supplying weapons to our enemies??? Cina and Russia! Why is ou biggest trade partner complicite in supporting various terrorist states? Every middle eastern war russia supplied weapons..... Maybe its because russia has vast oil and gas reserves of its own and wants to raise price of middle east oil in order to cause europe and america to buy more russian oil and gas? Eisenhower warned us of this .... How is it that we are buying and supporting communist china while they spy on us and have such a poor human rights record? i find it stange that we are so friendly to such countries.. We should cancel all support and use such to help america and its allies only.... What is this huge military budget being used for? To fight terrorists? You dont need submarines and F22 and n-kes to fight small groups such as these... oh wait russia and china are our "friends" so shouldnt we trust them.....lol after all walmart runs china... what and who is our enemy? james ainoris
