Actor Michael McKean hit by car in NYC

Actor Michael McKean was hit by a car while walking along a New York City street on Tuesday, suffering a broken leg, the New York Post reports.

Harriet Sternberg, his manager, told the Post McKean was being checked out at St. Luke's Hospital.

“He has sustained multiple injures and we are trying to find out the extent of other injuries,” the Post quoted her as saying.

McKean, 64, played the lead singer for the band Spinal Tap in the movie "This is Spinal Tap" among numerous other roles.

He was to have performed on Broadway in Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man” on Tuesday night, the New York Daily News reported.

“It’s the first time he will have ever missed a curtain in his entire life,” Sternberg told the Daily News. “He’s never missed stage, screens in film or television. His understudy has never gone on in 40-plus years.”

I first saw Michael McKean as the annoying Lenny on Laverne and Shirley and hated him (as that character and as an actor). Then the years went on and saw him in many of my favorite movies, such as Spinal Tap, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind and made many incredible appearances on TV and cartoons. When I read that he was hurt, I was happy to hear it was only a broken leg and hopefully he will heal completely. It wasn't until reading this that I realized he started out (at least to me) as the annoying Lenny. Talk about a great and varied career. He started out as someone I disliked and became one of my faves. Now that's an actor! Get well Michael!

Don't they say "break a leg" on Broadway? He was just doing what he was told.

  7. Anthropolegic Study on CNNers

I think it's interesting how some people in this world only contribute by saying things like "who??" or "never heard of him".

As if to assume anyone cares if YOU have or have not heard of anyone. Let alone a celebrity.

What compels people to type "Who??" and click submit?

I am seriously enthralled by those types of comments.

There must be a huge population of lonesome people who just want a reaction to their 1-word contributions.

To Anthropolegic: Please include me in your study, as I agree with the people who posted "who?" I'm sorry Mr. McKean broke his leg, but I've never heard of him, either. That said, why is it news? That's the point, I think: those of us asking "who" are puzzled why this is news. My neighbor turned his ankle last week and it got swollen. Perhaps that could be a headline story? And by the way: is "anthropolegic" a word? Or do you mean "anthropologic"?

What about the YEARS he spend playing Lenny on Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley? Maybe not the best years of his life, but his longest running role. Loved it.

It is news because it happened, and a large number of people know who he is. Just because it is not of interest to you does not mean it is not a news item.

Good lord people, Google him! He's been around for a long time. He played Lenny in Happy Days. He was a leading character in the funny movie about rock bands called, "Spinal Tap". He's been in a good number of movies, and done dozens of plays. Just because he's older than Justin Bieber doesn't mean he's not done some good, funny stuff. Put down your Teen Fan magazine and go look around for info on him.

Spinal Tap, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration...IMDB is a great resource to expand your horizons – Michael McKean is a great actor who is better than many with a career that spans 40 years, not some flash in the pan! Check him out in Never Again, hilarious!! Hope he gets better quickly!

I dunno...why is the paternity tests of a Kardashian news? This man has talent, skill and is intelligent. If a Kardashian merits news coverage, he merits it 10x over.
