Reports: Miami 'zombie' attacker may have been using 'bath salts'
A naked man who chewed off the face of another man in what is being called a zombie-like attack may have been under the influence of "bath salts," a drug referred to as the new LSD, according to reports from CNN affiliates in Miami.
Why 'bath salts' are dangerous
The horrific attack occurred Saturday and was only stopped after a police officer shot the attacker several times, killing him.

Larry Vega witnessed the attack on Miami's MacArthur Causeway. He told CNN affiliate WSVN he saw one naked man chewing off the face of another naked man.

"The guy was like tearing him to pieces with his mouth, so I told him, 'Get off!'" Vega told WSVN. "You know it's like the guy just kept eating the other guy away, like ripping his skin."
"It was just a blob of blood," WSVN quoted Vega as saying. "You couldn't really see, it was just blood all over the place."
Vega said he flagged down a passing police officer.
"When the officer approached him, told him to stop, pointed a gun at him, he turned around and growled like a wild animal and kept eating at the man's face," Fraternal Order of Police President Armando Aguilar told CNN affiliate WPLG.
The attacker was identified by Miami-Dade Police as 31-year-old Rudy Eugene. Miami-Dade referred CNN to Miami Police for all other details of the investigation.
Augilar said he suspects the attacker was under the influence of "bath salts." Four other drug use instances in Miami-Dade bear resemblances to Saturday's attack, he told WPLG.
"It causes them to go completely insane and become very violent" and take off their clothes, Augilar told WPLG.
Dr. Paul Adams, an emergency room physician at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, told CNN affiliate WFOR that the drug makes users delirious. They exhibit elevated temperatures and extreme physical strength, Adams said.
“I took care of a 150 pound individual who you would have thought he was 250 pounds,” WFOR quoted Adams as saying. “It took six security officers to restrain the individual.”
Adams said users have been known to use their jaws as weapons, according to WFOR.
According to a 2011 report from the National Institute of Drug Abuse, bath salts contain amphetamine-like chemicals.
"Doctors and clinicians at U.S. poison centers have indicated that ingesting or snorting 'bath salts' containing synthetic stimulants can cause chest pains, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, agitation, hallucinations, extreme paranoia, and delusions," according to the NIDA report.
In October, the Drug Enforcement Administration made possession of the stimulants in bath salts, Mephedrone, 3,4 methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) and Methylone, illegal under an emergency order. The order lasts for a year with a possible six-month extension.
The stimulants have been placed under restrictions or banned in 37 states, according to a DEA press release.
The victim of Saturday's attack, whom police have not identified, was in critical condition at Jackson Memorial on Monday, according to the WPLG report. Augilar told WPLG that 75% to 80% of his face was missing.
Eugene had an arrest record, mostly misdemeanors, including a battery charge from when he was 16 that was later dropped, according to the Miami Herald.
He had been married but divorced in 2007, WPLG reported. His former wife told the station that Eugene had been violent toward her.
Homeless people near where the attack took place said Eugene was often seen around the area looking confused, according to WPLG.

It's amazing how in these cases the media sensationalizes the attacker and says nothing about the victim and his condition. I thought the victim had died just to find out that he actually survived and will have his face reconstructed.
Have you guys heard the latest: there was a Zombie Attack in Maryland, where a college student ate the heart and brains of a fellow student. Also, in Spain three women attacked a police officer and started to chew on his arm!
...ok Im becoming spectocal about the whoe Zombie deal.. Look up all the stories on the net that have acured within the last yr! Similar tp this! Just sayng... The media has their way to get audiences watching. Maybe Im wrong.. Who knows but ive been looking up stories and somethings dont compare to this! Seriously. So... Not the first time a Jesus freak flipped out and did something crazy like eating someone's face... The Jesus zombie made him do it. Has it ever occurred to anyone that worshipping a 2000 year old zombie can have bizarre effects on your sanity? The bath salts were just a catalyst for a much deeper disorder, IMO...
Don't let the fact that most "Jesus Freaks" don't believe in alcohol consumption much less drugs because they fear demon possession influence the facts.
The bath salts thing is a lie. I've seen people who have done it, and it's not a hallucinogen. if anything, it's a stimulant and makes you talk alot; deffinately noot make you chew someone's face off.

Here is a wild idea. Let's end the failed war on drugs so people can take drugs that have been proven to be atleast relatively safe instead of mystery bath salts.
Of course there would be alot of opposition from the GOP, Tea Baggers, democrats and pretty much anyone else in the political field in America since they are the real zombies.
Not to mention the war on drugs is a multi billion dollar industry in the US and if it was ended alot of people with alot of political power would be out of jobs rather quickly. So we can expect to see many more years of tyranny in the good old free US of A.
How is it that there was time for police to seal the scene, journalist and passers by to take pictures and film the scene BEFORE the poor man was taken by an ambulance???????????

I think the most amazing and mind blowing fact of this I realized after seeing this news on TV: The homeless victim was lying naked and bleeding without half of his face and sight, under the Sun on the floor, next to the attacker for EVERYBODY to take pictures!!

Why did the victim not stop this from happening? That would most likely be due to the possibilty that he was 65 years old, elderly, and homeless. The video from security camera shows that the young, muscular 31 year old psychotic maniac suspect was beating this victim to an unconcious level. Not to judge, but most homeless individuals that I have come across are in mentally dire straights and usually self-medicate (AKA cheapest available drug is alcohol) to deal with their lives. Reality is, this poor, older fellow had zero chance sober or drugged against a 31 year old psychotic dude that was either mentally ill, hopped up on some bs or more than likey both. These are some reasons why this victim had his face pulverized by the suspect. It could have happened to any other person in that demographic, so please stop making comments like this dude should have been able to prevent this gruesome attack on his face. And zombies? That is just funny! If that dude was really a zombie, then the officer would have had to behead the suspect to keep him from moving. Turns out, he was on some stupid drugs, adrenal glands were in overdrive and it took more than one bullet to stop him.

Haha. this "snow ninja" guy thinks that because drugs are illegal, this incident happened, when in all truth, this happened because this man is cleary an idiot. and if drugs were legal, it wouldn't have happened less, but more, because people would have easier access to the drug
And bath salts might be dangerous, but only a crack head hood nig is capable of this.
