It's National Doughnut Day

Friday is the day America celebrates the doughnut.

National Doughnut Day originated with the The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 as a salute to the women who served doughnuts to U.S. soldiers during World War I.

The Salvation Army's "doughnut lassies" continued that service during World War II and cemented the doughnut's place in the American diet. If you want to try to duplicate the doughnut lassies' work in your kitchen today, The Salvation Army is providing their original recipe.

If you're not in the mood to celebrate National Doughnut Day in the kitchen, try heading down to your local Krispy Kreme or Dunkin' Donuts.

Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut to all customers at participating locations.

At participating Dunkin' Donuts, customers will get a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage.

Take a buttermilk can biscuit, put a hole in it with a shot glass, fry it in oil, put in bag of cinnamon and sugar, shake. (or icing of your choice) Make doughnut holes same way. Wheeeeeeeeeee.

Well good, ~ some lighthearted news for a change. Nice little history about the origin of National Doughnut Day in the article. Unfortunately, there are no Krispy Creme donut shops in the area where I live, so I won't be able to go get my 'freebie' doughnut. KK glazed doughnuts each only have 21 or 22 carbs total. Not bad carb wise for a snack. But they do have quite a few fat grams. Not sure how much of that fat is saturated. But still, I believe it's okay to indulge every once in a blue moon.

Has Michelle given her stamp of approval to this ? You can tell by looking at her from behind that she NEVER eats donuts.

I saw that liberal idiot Bloomberg celebrating doughnut day today, after banning loge sodas yesterday. Liberal hypocracy knows no limits.

Rush Limbaugh is a doughnut, William.
It's the same animal anyway. Even if it has a donkey head instead of a republican leader. (not counting lifelong democrats who convert to republicanism late in life. Ronald Reagan, for example)
