Jury selection under way in Sandusky trial

Jury selection in the trial of Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach charged with child rape, began Tuesday in Pennsylvania.

Proceedings started about 35 minutes later because of a conference between Judge John Cleland and attorneys. About 220 potential jurors reported for duty, called to arrive after the court whittled down the number from about 600 based on answers to questionnaires sent to prospective jurors' homes.

A judge last week denied Sandusky's attorneys' latest bid for a delay, allowing the case to move forward.

I chose the name mainly because it represents the treatment of male victims in society. Just like those little green plastic men, boys and men who have been abused are considered disposable. Everyone knows about them, but no one talks about them. Everyone uses them, but no one wants them. Those little army guys come in buckets, get poured on the floor, loved for a handful of minutes and then get torched, melted, lost, chewed on and broken without a second thought. They are the toy everyone had but no one keeps. In a way, that is what society thinks of male victims. We are simultaneously remembered and forgotten. In certain circles, any mention of us causes immediate controversy and hostility. Any attempt to reach out for help is met with a stiff hand. Just like toy soldiers (and real soldiers) boys and men are expected to take it.

the name Toy Soldier also represents my willingness to be the scapegoat for all those who think theses are non-issues. It would be better for them to attack me rather than silence boys and men who truly need to speak out about their experiences.

  3. Child abuse should be a capital crime

Until our society is able to deal with sxxual issues in a rational way, these predators will always find a place to abuse children.

That "place" will almost always have an enabler, such as, Dorothy “Dottie” Sandusky.
While it is entirely possible that she could not have known about anything, it seems unlikely in this case.
Jerry had so many boys visiting his home and staying there for days that it is difficult to believe that Dottie would not have seen, heard, or noticed something. This is particularly true given the at-risk kids they were taking in. One would believe she would notice any changes just out of basic compassion and concern.

Profiting off of war? What a concept ! Surely Americans are smarter than to fall for us sending our troops over to the ME for some noble cause. Thank you for citing what looks to be an interesting article.

Who ever you are please refrain from those remarks, this is an article on Mr Sandusky and should be the focus of comments, not other bloggers.

And Jerry will only make himself look worse, and dragging his wife into will not help him or her.

Great to have a clairvoyant blogging today. They know all, see all, and hear all. Too bad they spout nonsense. The man has not been confronted by his accusers in a court of law. Let them and then a jury wlll determine his guilt or innocence. Not the pretender of the innuendo and rumor.

    @ Portland tony,
Remember who the judge was at his bail hearing?
The judge who granted bail to former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky was a volunteer for his Second Mile charity, according to her biography on her former law firm’s website.

Sandusky was arrested on Nov. 5 and charged with 40 counts of s@xual abuse of young boys over a 15-year period.

Deadspin, a sports blog, reported that upon Sandusky’s arraignment, prosecutors requested $500,000 bail for Sandusky. They also wanted him to wear a leg monitor.

However, Judge Leslie Dutchcot freed Sandusky on $100,000 unsecured bail, meaning he’ll only have to pay if he doesn’t show up for court.

The judge’s profile on her former law firm’s website states that she volunteered at the Second Mile, the same organization where Sandusky allegedly found his victims.

My point? If that judge can be appointed to his bail hearing with an obvious "conflict of interest" who knows what will happen here.

And as for the "accusers" their names will not be withheld. Remember, you can always find "truth" residing in the "light"
