U.S. helicopter believed shot down in Afghanistan; 2 killed

[Updated at 10:23 a.m. ET] The U.S. believes one of its armed helicopters was shot down over Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing both crew members on board, a U.S. military official said.

"It is likely that the helo today was brought down due to enemy small arms and RPG fire," the official said. The chopper was a U.S. Army OH-58 Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance helicopter. It went down over Ghazni province.

In a statement, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the downing of the helicopter, saying a rocket was used.

"After the rocket hit it, the helicopter came down and took fire," said an e-mail sent by Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.

It seems like a large number of posters do not remember 9/11, or that the Taliban were protecting Bin Laden and the rest of his cronies. Had the Taliban done the moral, and responsible thing and turned them all in, we never would have invaded in the first place.
The only thing I don't understand is why Obama is even considering negotiating with the Taliban. I have not seen any evidence that they are anymore friendly towards out interests than they were 12 years ago.

The only way to peace is not peace itself, as you claim. The only way to peace is for governments to abolish organized religions who align themselves with both sides during wars. (catholics killing cathilics during wWII, for example)
Of course this would apply to nation of Islam as well. Muslims also drop their holy books during times of war and kill each other. And the fact that "gods chosen nation" Israel is a war monger has been well established, so the Jewish religion would have to go just as it did not long after Jesus was murdered. (Rome destroyed the Jewish Temple in 70AD, looting treasures to build stadiums)

Bs. Fmr. President GW Bush made a formal treaty with the Government of Afghanistan whereby US troops would be allowed to enter and arrest Usama Bin Laden and his "freedom fighters" both the US AND GB had paid 50 million dollars to keep russia from getting what western oil corporations wanted: Afghanistans vast TAPI. (TRANS-AFGHAN PIPLEINE INFRASTRUCTURE. The only way to get the Bush Bin Laden's group Caspian basin oil to China. (Group known as 'The Carlyle Group' to US, founded by The Bush Dynasty and 26 members of the Saudi Bin Laden family)

I see this in quotes all the time. Who ever said that Israel was Gos's chosem nation? I have never seen that anywhere, except on this board. It is demeaning to have that in quotes, when the only person saying this is who ever is posting this garbage.

...rather than arresting Usama Bin Laden and his freedom fighters, US troops turned-on the government of Afghanistan as Usama made his way to Pakistan. A puppet regime was installed, including a US citizen becoming Afghanistans new president. A man, Karzai, who had no problem with invading infidels using Afghanistans TAPI to further the interests of Americans. Something the fmr. government, The Taliban government, would not allow for it is forbidden to do so in The Koran.("Repel the invading infidels" it says. Not 'side with them' as a renegade muslim)

Ok, this is war. Pls. define for us what an occupation of a foreign nation is then. (for example, Germany occupying Frane after France was invaded, the French government abolished, and a pro-nazi regime installed. How does the situatin in afghanistan differ, if it's still a war and not an occupation)
