U.S. helicopter believed shot down in Afghanistan; 2 killed

[Updated at 10:23 a.m. ET] The U.S. believes one of its armed helicopters was shot down over Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing both crew members on board, a U.S. military official said.

"It is likely that the helo today was brought down due to enemy small arms and RPG fire," the official said. The chopper was a U.S. Army OH-58 Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance helicopter. It went down over Ghazni province.

In a statement, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the downing of the helicopter, saying a rocket was used.

"After the rocket hit it, the helicopter came down and took fire," said an e-mail sent by Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.

We need to get our troops home.
Whether defined as a war or and occupation is irrelevant, we do not belong there.
    Enough people have died.
    Bring them home.

Does the Taliban simultaneously get killed at the same time they claim responsibility ?

We are chaneled to weep for the loss of two brave men and praise their heroism, not to discuss why they were killed. in any other way but to damn the ones that killed them.
The cause, if not outright glorious is enough so, understood to be a neccessity of being an American and that is all we need.

Tragedies of war... You'd think we'd be used to it by now. This is, really, what it's all about:

    Retaliation!

Do we love it? Only when we're on top of our game. Yesterday, we were on top of the world... celebrating death. Today... we mourn.

Will it never end? I hope so...

    .
    My condolences,
    Hope

"Bring our boys home" has been falling on deaf ears for decades. We haven't even brought our boys home from occupied Germany yet.
What? Did you think that the US built the largest foreign embassy in the world because they were planning on leaving, did you? (though the CIA has pulled some 700 agents from their second largest operating base Bagdhad Iraq, with the largest being Denver USA, of course)

Yeah, "Believer", I want to bring our troops home from Afghanistan.
      You don't.
Apparently you don't think there's been enough bloodshed.
Is Germany actively shooting at us? No?
      I didn't think so.
      They need to come home.
They need to get out of there.
I really don't understand what you are railing against...they need to come HOME.
      Period.

@Patricia. Thank you for pointing out the obvious for all to see more clearly. Never in the history of nations has there ever been a friendly invasion bent-on helping anyone but themselves. Not an opinion. Check your history and get back with us if you choose to rebut. Otherwise, cork in piehole your opinions mean squat.

Now, UN security forces are only called upon when one of the Big Veto Member nations' interests are at stake. The UN called what was happening in the Sudan as US troops were mobilized vs. WMD Iraq (lmao) "The worst human rights violations in modern times". Notice the Sudan had nothing any of the big mighty nations wanted, so UN troops sat on their hands as over 1 million people were driven from their homes by their own government, who even slaughtered their herd animals. NO nation dare offer help w/o stepping on the mighty military nations toes. Only the poorest nation on earth aided Sudanese refugees of ethnic cleanseing.

I feel extremely sad for the two pilot's friends and family. Having known many men and women in the OH-58D Kiowa community, I can only ask that people remember that it is always good to hate the war, but never forget the soldier. We will see you men again at Fiddler's Green.
