Syrian National Council elects Kurdish activist as new leader

Fifteen months into the Syrian crisis and with no end in sight, a prominent opposition body has elected Kurdish activist Abdul Baset Sieda as its new president in what could reinvigorate a political arm of the uprising.

Dozens of countries have recognized the SNC as a legitimate representative of the Syrian opposition, though many members of the group's leadership are expatriates.

But Syrian President Bashar al-Assad - who has received global disdain for lethally cracking down on dissidents seeking his ouster - has said he will not deal with opposition members influenced from the outside.

Meanwhile, renewed attacks on the anti-government bastion of Homs killed at least three people on Sunday, including citizen journalist Khaled Bakr, opposition activists said.

According to the LCC, random shelling tormented the Homs neighborhood of Talbiseh early Sunday, pausing every four minutes only to continue with artillery and mortars.

    Interesting choice...
I wonder if it is an error though. Turkey has been an important pillar of support for the Syrian uprising and I wonder if putting a Kurd as the leader will make Turkey form some reservations about their support.

  2. Kurdled Turkey

Do not eat. Worse for you than combining complicated proteins. And when regurgitated, resembles what northern Iraqis (RIP) might look like camped near Crawford Texas after hoedown.

    Odd choice.
Wondering if in error. Corporate profit has been an aimportant pillar supporting why troops were ever sent to the ME. I wondered if putting another Turd as leader would make a difference. Nope. It didn't. Better luck next time.

  4. Formed Reservations

Who wants to play 'before and after' troops arrive? We could start with our old west and work our way to 130 different countries.

  8. Yep

Kinda makes one wonder if having US Troops guarding you is such a good idea for them, from the old American Indian perspective anyway. (the new ones took the cash bribe casino in exchange for shutting the hell up about it)

Yeah, no, not gonna work...but then they already sold off the indiana toll road, so who knows what daniels is gonna do? Daniels has never been for the state. Just his pocket. Nwi is completely out of the loop b/c of their democratic leanings. Gop don't like that, bro.
