Uniformed Afghans attack NATO troops, killing 1, officials say

[Updated at 5:19 p.m. ET] Attackers in Afghan police uniforms gunned down a member of NATO's peacekeeping force in southern Afghanistan on Monday, the allied command in Kabul reported.

The International Security Assistance Force said the three gunmen "immediately fled the area and are currently being sought."

No other details were released by NATO, but a U.S. official in Washington told CNN the fatality was an American and that as many as eight or nine others were wounded.

Uniformed Afghans - either insurgents in disguise, or members of the country's police or military - have been behind numerous killings of U.S. and NATO troops this year. The incidents have fueled mutual distrust between Afghan and NATO forces in the now-decade-old conflict.

The reason that we can't win in either Iraq or Afghanistan is twofold: it's impossible to defeat a concept like islam, especially in the Middle East and in a country that has NEVER been centrally ruled by anybody, and they'll never yield to the West.

You have to understand, they have been killing each other for thousands of years. When someone tries to come help, they kill them too. They hate the West. They hate all non-Muslims. It is no use trying to help them. I would not go to ANY Muslim country if you paid me 10 million dollars. If you are smart, you'll stay away. This includes: Turkey, Bali, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan, Egypt. Many of what we consider African countries are Muslim and under Islamic control. You'll see the same problems there as in typical middle eastern countries. Honor killings, stonings, bloodshed, killing of non-Muslims etc. If a country is predominantly Islamic, it is most likely a violent, female repressive country.

Really, since when a nation invade another to help.
By the way talking about killing,at least that Taliban only wish is to be left alone, they don,t go around invading other nations based on fabricated lies just to steal oil,Christians have practically wiped out Natives in all of the Americas, steal their lands and treasures, after that burn them at the stake if they refuse to convert, what a peaceful religion Christianity is.

Forty men of the village joined up to go to war;some were artisans, bakers, tradesmen, and others ordinary laborers, but all were patriotic.

In a land thousnds of miles away forty patriotic villagers got ready for war. bakers, tradesmen, artisans and common laborers.

Men who each when at peace could eadily if swapped places but due to birth had never met.

So both groups offorty men marched ltowardseachother and uponaccosting each other fired their weapons.

Bavk amongthe two lefr behind villages in each. forty men learned new skills andtradesby which to live.

Until the next time their leaders say we nees. forty good men to go to war.

There surely is enough evidence to show that our efforts in Afghanistan are futile! This will never be what the rest of the world would have hoped for and it's an endless drain on resources and American lives. Time to quietly speed up the withdrawal and let these folks handle their own internal issues for a change!

If there is one man on these blogs who KNOWS how oil flows around thus world, that man would be little old me.
He he...I just called myself "little" while in reality, I bench 900 lbs, with my left leg! he he. One thing the oilfield will do to a 17 yr. old pup is to make a big dog out of him.

    @sherri
what an irrational and ill founded post.
Had you visited countries like Dubai,Turkey, Malaysia, Abu Dhabi, Egypt,Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Pakistan and many others you would have found thousands of westerners enjoying a life style hard to get even in their own countries. Even now except for places which are split open to violence after our invasion and occupation these countries attract hordes of tourists and those wanting to settle.
In around 50 plus muslim countries I don't see them trying to kill each other off for thousands of years.
As Mark Twain said travel is the enemy of bigotry and prejudice, do not travel.

And if you have some sense of history you would know that from the medieval era to 19 century and beyond its those in the West who had been trying to kill each other more than any other people on this planet and responsible for more blood shed.
Gothic wars,Balkan campaigns, Saxon wars,Hungarian invasions,Norman conquest,Anglo French, Venetian wars,Scottish,Norwegians,13 yrs war,war of Roses,Austro hungarian, Anglo-Spanish,English civil war,Anglo-Dutch, Napolean. On and on. The list is unending.
    The whole period from 1803-1897 and 1900-1945. 1945 -1989 and 1989 -2000.
Our own civil war, holocaust, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam
