Insurgents breach U.S. military outpost in southern Afghanistan, U.S. officials say

A small U.S. military outpost in southern Afghanistan was breached by insurgents early Tuesday, according to two U.S. officials.

Both officials said initial details are sketchy, but military reports indicate that at least eight insurgents somehow got inside the security perimeter at Forward Operating Base Frontenac. Neither official had information on how the breach occurred.

They don't allow women on the outposts. Only on large FOBs. Outposts are a lot like the old firebases during Vietnam. Small, minimal accomodations, out in the middle of BFE, and resupplied by helos regularly. Non-combat arms MOS's are kept to a minimum or just don't exist there.

@Focus. My husband is a soldier at Frontenac. I heard from him a few hours ago and he said it is a mess. A few of our soldiers (2-17FA (SBCT)) from Fort Lewis were wounded but not life threatening. We are still waiting to here word for the Col. at this time. Thanks for your concern.

@brainy If women aren't allowed there then please tell someone in charge that so my daughter can leave there immediately as she was there for the attack and is still there.

I just heard from my husband today. No casualty to our servicemen, but they have multiple wounded soldiers. All insurgents were killed. They did did a heroic job to protecting fellow soldiers/civilians. Please continue to pray for their safe returns to their loved ones.

How many imperialist invaders were slaughtered by the intrepid Afghan people's defense forces in this glorious struggle?

@Jimbo: "Why are we wasting our tme, money and soldiers lives in this stinky sandbox again?"

Ostensibly, because we're trying to stabilize the area so the Taliban don't return to power. You remember them, right? The guys that gave al-Qaeda protection and space to execute the 9/11 attacks that killed 3,000 Americans in the U.S.?

Since our initial goal was to get bin Laden and shatter al-Qaeda in the region, and that has been accomplished, albeit in Pakistan – I'd kind of like to know what the new "line" is, though. To keep them from coming back? To kill their friends, the Taliban? A little focus to the mission would be nice.

The main mission is to transfer wealth from the stupid American public to war profiteers. Wildly successful so far.

The military should bait them better, getting more of these insurgents to enter these supposidly secure outposts, than totally destroying the post and all these insurgents that have entered. We need more drones and more effective air to ground weapons on these units to really be efficient, napalm is now outlawed by the Geneva Convention, but scientists can come up with effective alternatives making the insurgents think twice when they lose large numbers of their tribes to just such alternatives. We also have to be less civilized in warfare because they play on us with that fact,if more deaths were more sadistic, more unconscienible, these insurgents would truelly back woff, not wanting more of the same for their and others tribes. They feel they're the global martyrs for the worlds good against the evil Americans and their anti Muslim agendas, seen world wide,a David and Goliath war of sorts. That's why they're fighting ,for Muslim supremacy world wide believing they're still the chosen ones,no matter what everyone's seeing them as terrorists destroying our freedoms, that's their plans and its working nationally..

George Orwell wrote that " we can sleep peacefully in our beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". Most people who complain about wars, violence and other world problems...only complain, because they are too afraid to do anything else. get up or shut up. the United States Military is the reason that we can even have an opinion. Those brave individuals would rather be at home with their families, but unlike the cowards who are all talk, they are stepping forward and making a difference. Thank you to every American Military Service person.

I love all these comments about protecting freedom. Freedom? These wars are over money, not freedom. Young men and women putting their lives on the line every day to make rich globalists richer, not for freedom. MSM has americans believing the silliest things.....

People of the United States of America,
In order to save American soilders lives, pull them all out of the country sides and tactical NUKE the whole damn region and mountains and teach the Taliban a real lesson in pain.Yeah, yeah I know it's real over kill to much colateral damge and EL Presidente Obama would never ever do it beause then Putin would lose his mind and invade Georgia the EX Soviet State or Poland.I am tired of losing valuable American men and women soilders for a lost cause just like in my war Vietnam which we also should have NUKED and saved American lives.

Every time the refrain of," we owe our freedoms to the military" is heard or written all I can think of is history of Communist and Fascist indoctrination; along with the religious fanaticism within Christian Zionism and certain sects of lIslam.
You may owe some, a very small amount, of personal security of the commons; as the militarization of US has not protected anything but your standard of living while helping to destroy the framework that defines your freedoms
There is not one power. of old Monarchs, Despots and Dictatorships not now held by the Executive Branch of government, and at no other time since our founding as a nation have the commons been so weak and unable to constrain those powers.
    NEVER!
Not only weak and unable but unwilling as well.
At least in modern times communist. facsist and despots have had to bludgeon their subjects into submission, where as in US we laud those powers as our protectors and saviors.
US populace so strongly believe their self made muths that now the cracks in those myths are becoming so readily visible that the only ground they have left to stand upon is ancient military actions.
Ametican freedoms for 150 years were maintained in spite of our military, a military that time after time has had to be put back into its proper role by our elected representatives who had the commons support to do so.
Not belittleing the prowess of our military men

At Fob Frontenac, all i can say is that i miss my wife, i miss my kid, we have a great standard of living here. I am here because i made a choice to serve. When i get home I will understand what freedom is. Thats a small word that means a billion reasons to be thankful. Our government has its issues BUT OUR goverment is also why we have FREEDOM.
