Julian Assange requests asylum in Ecuador, foreign minister says

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has formally requested asylum in Ecuador, the country's Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said.

Patino, speaking at a press conference in Quito, Ecuador, read from a statement that Assange was currently at Ecuador's embassy in London, England, where he formally requested asylum. Patino read a statement to reporters at a news conference in Quito. He took no questions.

The request comes after the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom on Thursday dismissed an application filed by an attorney for the WikiLeaks founder who was seeking to reopen his appeal against extradition to Sweden.

The application was Assange's last option in the British courts. Britain's Crown Prosecution Service has previously said if the court dismissed Assange's appeal, his only further remedy is to apply immediately to the European Court of Human Rights, and Assange's attorneys have vowed to do so.

The appeal itself would be a rarity, as the court's decisions are supposed to be final in Britain.

Assange has been fighting for a year and a half against being sent to Sweden for questioning about accusations of sexual abuse. Two women accused him in August 2010 of sexually assaulting them during a visit to Sweden in connection with a WikiLeaks release of internal U.S. military documents.

WikiLeaks' work is not at issue in the extradition matter or the Swedish allegations against Assange.

Assange has not been charged with a crime, but Swedish prosecutors want to question him about allegations of "unlawful coercion and sexual misconduct including rape," according to a Supreme Court document.

Either your reading comprehension skills are lacking, or you do not know what an "embassy" is.

Here is something we all already know or are you naive:

Israel has special military operatives working to over through Assad’s Syria.

From Wiki Leaks: “Israeli security forces have undergone extensive training prior to the coup to over through the Syrian government (Assad's Syria). Israeli secret military operatives have undergone logistic training to arm and rallied Syrian Citizens to over through the Syrian Forces (Strategic Coup).”

Same operations, transmissions, conducted in Libya to topple Muammar Gaddafi.

Radio transmissions are easy to decrypt and bribes disclose secrets.

For over a year – Israel has sent secret service agents, a coup to over through Assad’s Syria.

Israel has special military operatives killing thousands of Syrian Armed Forces, Army, Navy, Air Force, Air Defense Force, and Paramilitary Forces. This Israeli NATO cover up is Genocide.

I do not support Israel killing over 10,000 human beings.

Israel’s motive is clearer than Crude, Natural Resources, and relentless Greed.

Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton have armed Israel with U.S. military weapons and weapons of mass destruction. This Israeli armament is the cause of Middle East instability and genocide.

Anyone, any journalist, who denies the truth, breaks the commandments: Thou shall not bear false witness, Thou shall not kill, and Thou shall not steal – should remember – your antimatter, your soul is at stake; Heaven or Hell is for eternity.

So you must have missed all the news reports of little girls with their limbs blown off. Try going to liveleak and watch one of the thousand videos there. I don't give a crap what Israel is doing, if Assads forces like shelling civilians they all get what is coming to them.

I am Liberal and support the Leaks; however, Assange is a Narcissist who doesn't deserve any credit. He wants publicity for himself, not the world.

I'm with you, Johnson. I'm not upset about the leaks, just that they were done by Assange whose ego is so huge that he thought he was qualified to determine what was safe to release all on his own and thereby put people unnecessarily at risk.

"WikiLeaks' work is not at issue in the extradition matter or the Swedish allegations against Assange."

Riiight, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that Assange publicized the dirty laundry of the US, including war crimes (Collateral Damage), corruption, theft and bribery.

The war criminals go free, because we have to "look forward", the banksters go free, but the people who blow the whistle on monstrous crimes are persecuted to the end of the earth with made up accusations because they can't prosecute them for publishing (pesky 1st amendment).

The media? Cowards all. Can't expect them to do any investigative journalism, they're too beholden to "access" and advertisers. Can't even expect them to defend freedom of speech anymore. No, instead, the media just parrots the cynical propaganda of the administration without question or cognitive dissonance. Pathetic

Sad to see so many against freedom of speech and free information. If you want big government and corporations to censor and filter all of your news so you can feel like the world is pleasant and perfect the rest of your lives, than I feel very sad for you. I would much rather be well informed instead of consistently getting "non-news" from most news outlets.
