@Superman. Nobody was here last night. 🙂
Hi all. @chrissy 🙂 My sleep schedule has been interupted by smoke and a few ash, plus I've been working my tail off, and breaking in a new helper. (John will be 19 tomorrow. Good kid. g/f just joined the Navy) Anyway...
C-130s arrived as promised (ty US Air Force) and in short order the fire bearing down on us was 5% contained. Thick smoke grounded the craft, smoke so thick it blottet-out my view of Pikes Peak, a huge mountain. Some had reported they were refueling. he he. Dresden and Berlin were further away than this. sheesh.:)
I awoke a bit ago and ain't even put on my boots to go outside and look. I can could see the flames burning down Rampart Range road towords Garden of the gods from here, it they ain't been snuffed out yet. These guys are good. bbl after i check. And, thanks for asking.
The smoke is too thick for me to see the flames right now. Wind direction changes often, though. So they could come-into view at any time, and if any flame.
According to my source (The Gazzette online, a newspaer I delivered as a boy) 3,500 plus acres burned, 12,000 evacuated, 600 brave firefighters, and aircraft flying tonight fighting this blaze. Our main highway to the west remains closed. Not even one injury reported!
Sheesh. Containment of this fire isn't expected till mid-July. It's 3,500 up and down acres, not flat. Slopes too slanted to even hike up. Though I did hike down to the now evacuated town of Crystola once. But it was after two blizzards that snowed me in while camping above Rampart Range Rd., near where this fire is reported to have started. Came accross a snowbound cow elk.I ran out of gas after a week of trying to dig my way out, and hiked down to a warm breakfast in Crystola. I tipped the waitress gal a genuine Silver Dollar to celebrate my return to civilization, he he.
The mountainous terrain no-doubt makes it harder on firefighters.
