Investigator: Zimmerman missed opportunities to defuse situation

George Zimmerman failed to identify himself twice during a confrontation with Trayvon Martin and missed opportunities to defuse the situation that led to the death of the teen, a detective says in a newly released report.

Zimmerman, who served as a neighborhood watch volunteer, is charged with second-degree murder in the February 26 shooting death of Martin, 17, in Sanford, Florida.

The revelation is part of information Florida prosecutors released Tuesday. It includes a previously undisclosed portion of a video of Zimmerman showing injuries he said he suffered in the altercation with Martin.

Zimmerman, 28, told police he shot the teenager in February in self-defense and has pleaded not guilty. But Martin's family and civil rights activists said Zimmerman, who is white and Hispanic, racially profiled Martin and ignored a 911 dispatcher's advice not to follow him.

Zimmermans going to fry on the stand, now that"all" the evidence is finally coming out showing him more of a racist and mentally unstable than previously reported. He's a community watch volunteer and doesn't know to tell people on confronting them he's a volunteer watch person, that's ignorence and he was attending a junior college for police inforcement school as well, that doesn't say much for that college does it.All you hypocritical racist out there saying Trayvon was a back kid who was a drug dealer, gang banger, pot head should be ashamed,it just goes to show the inherient racism that still exists in this country and the lack of of maturity, intellect that is being shown with commentors coming out publicly that they too are racist, that's ignorence I or anyone that's intelligent can't or won't stand for,its also apparently shows for the lack of respect that's being paid to our president made publicly clear recently and no real clear admonishment of the guilty party that did it,that's shameful!!This will show at the polls in November as a signal made clear people in this country won't tolerate racism anymore, those days are over, slaves are gone,at least in this country and we are all one in this great nation,"united we stand ,divided we will fall!"Wake up America, your intelligence is being trampled on,by more ignorent ones

I'm sorry, it's just really hard to take you seriously when you talk like that. Even if we ignore the spelling, grammatical, and syntax errors in your statement, your knowledge of the law causes your argument to break down.

IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO FOLLOW SOMEONE. IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO ASK SOMEONE A QUESTION. George did not have to identify himself to anyone. If you claimed the incident could have been avoided had he done this, then you'd be more accurate. But you'd still be avoiding the possibility that George DID lose Trayvon, and Trayvon returned and confronted George.

Everyone discriminates based on a variety of factors. Some are logical, some are not. Some seem driven by an illogical factor, but in reality are driven by logical factors linked to a particular group. I, for one, hate people who are willfully ignorant, revel in their own uneducated state, ostracize members of their community who wish to better themselves and others through education and cooperation, and blame their current state of affairs on events that occured 150 years ago. That group includes low-income urban black individuals, as well as low-income rural white individuals, as well as a smattering of other groups. Am I racist because I refuse to accept excuses regarding issues of personal responsibility?

You mention the slamming of President Obama in the recent threads. I understand the frustration with people slamming a candidate or politician you support; I've had it happen several times. I supported many actions of President Bush and I continue to support the actions of Governor Walker of Wisconsin. Is it ok to slam them because they are not black? Additionally, like it or not, President Obama did involve himself with the case early on, rather recklessly I might add. His comments are easily interpreted (or misinterpreted, as the case may be) as an endorsement of this as a racial issue.

Therein lies the beauty of our country. I can address millions of people through social media, spewing a vitriolic, hate-filled speech about the inferiority of, I don't know, anyone. Let's say white people. With a few small rules based mostly around the nature of objective and subjective truths, I am allowed to do that. Anybody is. And though I may disagree with what a fellow American citizen may say, I will defend to the death their right to say it.

      Remember that.

Martin had no obligation to tell Zimmerman who he was or where he was going either. Martin was 17, a child by all legal definitions. Even if Zimmerman had identified himself, would you trust him? Plenty of kidnappers, pedophiles and serial killers pretend to be police officers or authority figures in order to get what they want.

Zimmerman could have diffused the situation further by following the rules of the NW and left the gun at home.

Not a fan, actually. More of a nod to Nikola Tesla, the father of modern electricity. I work in power generation, so it fits. May I ask the root of DJKRB?

Well actually, I heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who, heard it from another. It's a real shame that the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth will ever come out on this. Since half of this tragedy is unable to tell his side of the story, there is absolutely no way we will ever really know what happened that night.

The racist against white/hispanic people will see that he does not have a chance at trial. He is being screwed and the White/Hispanic Communities should defend themselves. Holder BO Spike Lee the Black Panthers will fry him in trial or kill him afterwards. He was scared no one can act calmly when they are being slapped around. The only mistakes GZ made was carry even though he can and joining this neighbor hood watch in a crime ridden area by Blacks. It is sad that a man is dead but killing him would be twice the crime. He & his family as well as many other innocent people have suffered enough stop this BS and free GZ

Paranoid much? Do you really think that black people control everything? What planet do you live on? Maybe you just live in an alternate universe like in "White Man's Burden" ?
Zimmerman took his gun and went after Treyvon looking for a fight. He got more than he could handle so he killed the kid. He might get off, he might get convicted, but its beyond ridiculous to assert that the Black Panthers are going to make the decision.
