A look back: Casey Anthony found not guilty of killing daughter one year ago

One year ago Thursday, Casey Anthony entered a courtroom in a pink ruffled shirt, her hair pulled back in a ponytail. She waited to learn whether a jury had found her guilty in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

The tension was palpable. The case had gripped the entire country, and emotions were flaring outside the courthouse. Inside, Anthony was biting her nails and her lower lip and taking deep breaths at the defense table.

Then came the words that would divide many: not guilty. Her trial was one that had gripped the nation. It was a summer obsession for many, who stayed glued to the TV from the moment Caylee went missing to the moment that verdict was read.

Anthony had been found not guilty of first-degree murder in the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter and of aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter. The woman whose face was known around the world, who had been dubbed "tot mom," had her day in court.

She wiped tears from her eyes, clutched her attorneys' hands and hugged them.

One year later, Anthony remains in hiding, fearful for her safety and her life. She says she's received numerous threats because people still believe she is guilty of the crime. But she continues to fight to convince them that she is not guilty, exactly the finding a jury decided 12 months ago. Anthony said the world may have one view of her, but she knows who she truly is.

"There’s obviously several misconceptions," Anthony told CNN's Piers Morgan in June. "Obviously, I didn’t kill my daughter."

Anthony told Morgan that she cherished her daughter and did not want to get rid of her, as many people had suggested during and after her trial.

"If anything there’s nothing in this world I’ve ever been more proud of, and there’s no one I loved more than my daughter," Anthony said. "She’s my greatest accomplishment."

As the anniversary nears, here is a look back at evidence and testimony, the verdict as it happened, analysis of the "historic decision" by the jury and some key video from the trial.

Defense: 'Caylee drowned'

The defense argues the Casey Anthony case is not a murder case but a tragic coverup that "snowballed out of control."

Casey: 'All I want is my kid back'

In a conversation taped in jail, Casey Anthony lashes out at the media over coverage of Caylee's disappearance.

Cindy Anthony: 'I lost it'

In court, Casey's mother, Cindy Anthony, describes her journey to finally see Casey and realizing Caylee was missing.

Lee Anthony: 'I was really hurt'

Brother Lee Anthony breaks down in court when asked about Casey's pregnancy.

Everyone in that family knows what happened to Caylee and they all had a part in covering it up. The worst part for me is the parents making money off of it from the likes of Dr Phil.

I think it's silly of us to act like we know one way or another. The only person that knows the truth is Casey, and the killer if she in-fact did not kill her daughter.

It doesn't matter what any one of thinks, really. She can't be tried twice for the same crime and the jury already found her not guilty. One day the true will come out.

You murdered your child CA. You will always be seen by the vast majority in this country as the monster that took the life of her little girl. Remember that. Just because 12 gutless jurors saw fit to let you off does not translate into your innocence. Just don't provoke us by trying to become a celebrity or leverage money off the murdering of your child.

I still think she is guilty, but answer me this oh epitome of manhood: WHAT is the point of having a justice system, with a trial by jury, where once you are found NOT GUILTY by a jury of your peers, men, I mean guys like you STILL think it is acceptable over an anonymous post to threaten the life of a female if she dare show her face?

I think she SHOULD go on t.v. and explain her side of the story. She has never been put in the hot seat, so to speak, and I think it would be a good idea if someone grilled her with the questions she avoided answering at her trial.

Oh and the jury's decision, while I don't agree with it, can HARDLY be called gutless. They darn well knew where the public opinion was on this case, and they KNEW how they were expected to go, and yet they didn't. Whether or not they misunderstood how much they were expected to go on, or one part in the whole thing had them stumped, they STILL took a courageous move. They KNEW men like you would be calling for their heads. Even the women. Wow, aren't YOU brave.

The media tried and convicted Casey.
The mindless zombies that let the media think for them, still can't accept the verdict a full year later.
This article was for CNN to see how well and how long their brainwashing lasts.

    Question:

Why would anyone want to cover up an accident. If casey Anthony is innocent . . . then why was she partying after the death of her "CHARISHED" daughter????

Why would anyone coverup an accident. Did she not think anyone would believe her story??? . . . then going to party after her "CHARISHED" daughter's death???

Somebody needs to do to this woman what the Gpldman's did to O.J. – pressure until she caves and is sent back to jail.

i watched enough of this horrible tragic story unfold that i have no doubt kc murdered her daughter, Caylee. i don't think the jury was bribed but i do believe they had dollar signs in their minds, thinking an outrageous verdict would bring a bigger payoff. not very smart. jose baez whines as one headline said like a "sore winner". is he so stupid to think people would admire him for his contribution to enabling a baby killer to walk free? cheney mason has shown the country what a totally ignorant pos he is. and now kc is thinks of herself as a brand? i think i will go and vomit.

Nothing in the CA story made sense to any normal, prudent person. So, unless she was totally irrational or insane, she did it. End of story.

The world will always know she is guilty. She may be out of prison but will live in one of fear and hate for the remainder of her life.
