Zimmerman's new bail set at $1 million

A Florida judge set the new bail amount for George Zimmerman - a Florida man charged with murder in the February shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin - at $1 million on Thursday.

It was unclear how quickly Zimmerman (pictured) could post the bail and be released from jail. His attorney argued that Zimmerman should not be jailed because the state's case is weak and his claim of self-defense is strong.

Zimmerman's previous bail - $150,000 - was revoked last month after the judge learned Zimmerman and his wife had failed to disclose more than $150,000 in donations from the public.

Leading up to the judge's decision Thursday, Zimmerman attorney Mark O'Mara asked the judge to set the same $150,000 bail amount that he granted in April. Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda countered that Zimmerman should remain in jail without bail because he was complicit in lying to the court and can't be trusted.

Zimmerman, who says he shot the unarmed Martin in self-defense, could stay in jail until his eventual trial or could be released Thursday if he posts bail. He would not have to post the full amount. Only a percentage is needed to make bail.

Height and weight does not matter I'm 5'9" 116lbs and I can take down a full grown man 3x my size. The fact is he was unarmed. If I (a small white female) was walking around with my hood up in a neighborhood I would hope someone or an officer would stop and ask " what gives?" I have 2 children and am always worried about ANYONE starting trouble! I honestly think it was a case of wrong place wrong time. I also find it very sad that this whole thing ended in someone's life being taken.

@Anna it was for someone that always says it is the picture of Trayvon when he was 12.
Fists are not a match for a gun. But I would put the hurt on him before he shot me.

Exactly no unarmed child is a match for an armed man. I honestly don't see how this is right. My brother said ( a 180lbs MIlitary Police white male said ) "You don't shoot a kid without a gun." Race aside! No child should be subject for intimidation! It's an excuse!!!! And to be followed and then shot if anyone should have been alarmed it was the boy!

So, due to his status, is not a flight risk. He killed in self defense, and they raised his bail by 9 times? WITCH HUNT

No, they raised it because he lied about how much money he had and the second passport.

  4. Ignorance is Amazing

GZ started the fight on purpose and made himself a victim to justify a murder he had planned anyway, he should be charged with something worse than manslaughter. Shame on the Amerikkkan justice system for covering up for GZ, we see through all of this

Why don't you let the jury decide that, the facts do not support your theory.

In florida, starting a fight on purpose and losing the fight on purpose just to get a few scars on purpose while you are armed to justify a planned murder= stand your ground

You should be the last one barking about "ignorance", since your claim Zimmerman started a fight is in no way supported by the dispatchers call, where Zimmerman says he does not know where Martin is and was "Afraid".A little more time researching he facts, a little less listening to the marching race pimps.

@Thomas Stratford,I think you should do some reading as well .Zimmerman was told to stay put by police dispatchers, even after spying on Trayvon seeing him buying a can of tea and candy for his little brother. He was also recorded by police saying to dispatchers he was tired of these bastards always getting away.He was going to junior college to get police training, don't they teach to "OBEY YOUR SUPERIORS".He was carrying a gun, community watch volunteers aren't allowed to,only mace or pepperspray. He was the aggressor, not Trayvon tracking a minor at night armed and then confronted Trayvon without identifing himself.Trayvon was talking to his girlfriend telling her he was being followed,he told her he's not running because his father taught him not to run to make him look quilty, even thou he wasn't..There's no STAND YOUR GROUND LAW here because if you see it everyday as I do in Florida Zimmerman obviously had a Charles Bronson mentality, Zimmerman did look to make himself the community hero taking down a supposid black thug as he portrayed Trayvon to police..All he had to do was stay put as the police said,Trayvon would be alive and Zimmerman would still be doing his job just being a volunteer, not a Death Wish wanne be!!He also didn't have to shoot him in the chest killing him because if you're a trained gun operator with experience as I am,there's more then one way to subdo a person without killing him if you're properly trained ,so to all you doubters go do some more unbiased reading because there's too much racism on here for me to digest and I'm white,so don't call me the racist here for putting in my two cents here before commenting, thanks!!

@ Stratford, please get your facts straight before coming on here as a wanne be detective, with your info Zimmerman would be walking now, wouldn't he,typical ignorent racist..Zimmerman was told by dispatchers originally to stay put in his car,not track down Trayvon after he spied Trayvon in the convenience store buying tea and candy for his brother,is that a crime in your state,it sure as hell ain't in mine I assure ya!!

That's what i say. Does anyone know the term innocent until proven guilty? Strange concept isn't it.

Who really wants a jury to decide? A jury having an avg. IQ of, say, George W. Bush?. (all IQ tests suggest having an IQ of around 160 to be a military commander) I'M not even inteligent enough to serve on a jury.
A jury should be made-up of very wise and very experienced individuals, not average citizens! For example, the kid voted "most popular" would make a horrible(r) George Patton OR Washington. Make a purty good shrub tho. (arbusto)
Buddy Jesus is popular what with personal salvation at stake and all.
And juries that let bad men go free...run amock they have.
Justice itself needs a court advocate.

Just as we have court advocates looking after the rights of our children should we tangle them up in our own adult affairs, we need adbvocates for Justice.
You old retired judges...get back into the fray. Donate one round of golf on that same old course and volunteer to be a court advocate for Justice. The next miscarriage of Justice you see, show your face in disapproval. Pull some strings. Make it happen. (wish i were an old retired judge)

  13. Judge Dread

Yep. Most would dread having a group of the wisest people on their jury. Old men and women who have seen it all...even your two-bit "defense" attorney who sold your guilty ass a pair of worthless skates[justice]. Most, a hundred times they have seen these shenanigans.
Who WOULDN'T want any but the wisest on their own jury but the guilty?

  14. might i suggest

Here is a novel idea that would easily raise a million in cash for bail.
Give Zimmerman a job as schoolbus monitor in Compton. (you should be able to take it from here) 🙂

    Wait! Better idea...
...smear black shoe polish on Zimmerman's face and hands, get him drunk, and then have him get lippy with LAPDs finest. Big bucks right there.
