Reports: Justin Bieber cited after freeway chase

Pop star Justin Bieber was cited for speeding on a Southern California freeway Friday after a trying to evade paparazzi in a high-speed chase, according to news reports from Los Angeles.

L.A. City Councilman Dennis Zine, a former police officer,  told CNN affiliate KABC-TV that he witnessed the incident on the South 101 Freeway in Studio City and reported it to the California Highway Patrol.

He said Bieber was traveling at about 100 mph in his Fisker Karma hybrid.

"It was like a rocket ship coming by, I'm not exaggerating when I say that,"  KABC quoted Zine as saying. "When it passed me, it had to be going close to 100 mph."

Zine told the Los Angeles Times that the chase between Bieber and the paparazzi spread across the freeway and even on to the shoulder.

"It was like slot cars, they were going so fast," the Times quoted Zine as saying. "It was a very dangerous driving situation. I figured someone was going to crash,  so I called 911."

CHP spokesman Saul Gomez told Reuters that Bieber was cited for driving 80 mph in a 65 mph zone.

CHP officer Ming Hsu said an officer saw a car pursuing Bieber but that it fled when Bieber was stopped.

The incident drew a crowd on the roadway, one witness told KABC, with motorists stopping to take Bieber's picture.

Zine told the Times the paparazzi should have been cited as well as the 18-year-old singer, but he said the pursuing photographers were no reason for Bieber to speed.

"Anytime you do 90, the paparazzi are going to go 90," Zine was quoted as saying.

As always, it is someone else that is at fault. Someone else made him exceed the speed limit but wasn't that his decision. Another spoiled kid.

this is just the beginning of the end of Beiber my friends....this is where he gets out of control and thinks he is justified because he is rich now. His parents let him get too much too soon instead of letting others take control of his life. Come on, he hangs out with rappers and has a girlfriend with lots of traveling and sleepovers at 16, 17 & earlier. I think maybe Selena got smart and dumped his behind for being obnoxious. She needs to learn some lessons too. What a shame to see someone so young go down the tubes. He needs to get a grip on his life and learn what is real and what is made up and not believe his own hype. Next is booze and drugs, watch...

No real repercussions there. Pay a small fine out of his fortune. I think the fine should be a percentage of income... Or maybe automatic driving school no matter what. That would deter rich people from speeding a lot more than paying $200.

Most rich people who speed are far less dangerous on the road than those jealous of their wealth driving 10 mph. Speeding even drugs and being drunk are not as dangerous as 'dem who drive with a total disregard for human life. Those Moore-ons are far too selfish and narcissistic to really care about the lives of others. Just like charity, what they say is the opposite of what they do and how they conduct their day to day lives.

Bieber [or anyone for that matter] should not have to feel compelled to speed in order to get away from paparazzi. The paparazzi is definitely to blame in every case such as this! What gives them the right to infringe on others? The fact that they make money for magazines that benefit from violating people's privacy? Ridiculous!

sorry but this is a small price to pay to be able to screw any and every hot chick(18-25) you want and have enough money to be banging them when you are 60.

As for the speeding, no way is this safe, Justin seems like a Democrat and they are dangerous behind the wheel at 10mph, all 'dems have a total disregard for human life so 'dem with a car is more dangerous than a non dem with a gun.

This is certainly Obama's fault. If Mitt Romney were president going over 100 miles per hour will put you in a state of the art for profit prison. More new jobs for everyone. Problem solved.

Obama's fault? How is that possible? I thought that anything negative associated with Obama was George Bush's fault.

Another lib lie based upon the Democrats inability to be anything other than a dishonest, hate-filled selfish lib.

I thank each and every Democrat who puts an Obama sticker on their car. It may be the furthest thing possible from their true intent, but they are saving lives and preventing accidents by giving responsible people who care about the lives of others a warning of what type of person in the car ahead of them.

All you need to do is go drive on the roads in the bluest parts of America, attempt a walk down the street of any Democrat city at 1am, it is a moral obligation to vote Republican if you are capable of good, if you can care about someone else beside yourself. and no, stealing from one person and giving that money to another to vote Democrat is not charity or caring, most libs give what Biden gave to charity last year, nothing. Most Republicans give to charity like Romeny, a great deal of their own wealth because they actually care and want to help others.

That is reckless driving, not speeding. Auto accidents is the #1 Killer of Americans in his age group. He has set a horrible example and needs his license taken away from him.

I agree and the paparazzi should have been stopped and charged too. I'm sure that Bieber has a cell he could have called 911 and asked for help. He is going to end up killing . There is too much of this that goes on look what happened to Princess Diana same darn thing not the paparazzi. They all needed stopped too. ANd yes loose his licence would be a great Idea so if he is caught speeding he can go to jail the next time. But just look at this kid and if you have seen him on any TV shows he looks like a smart As- and is one too. He neds fined big time too and needs to go to charity work some where so he will get it in his head this was the wrong thing to do.

How about citing the paparazzi as well??? That to much to ask? They stalk these 'stars' and get away with it. Princess Di anyone? I am in no way a Bieber fan in any way but wrong is wrong.

Lead car gets the ticket. Being followed by papps comes with the ridiculously rich and bafflingly famous territory, so you're going to be followed, super star. No need to endanger everyone else by trying to speed away from them. 100 mph? You should have been arrested, your license revoked, and the car impounded.
