Odd how people say "rest in peace" when what they mean is goto heaven or hell.

It has nothing to do with one's beliefs.
It is a sign of respect for the departed.
It is a lovely sentiment that is designed to give comfort to the bereaved.

      Keep deleting this, CNN.
I will re-post, for the original post is still here, and deserves an answer for all of those who use RIP as an expression of sympathy.

85% of US citizens claim that when you die, you aren't realy dead...you are either in heaven or in hell. And so they lie through their teeth when they say "rest in peace".

No, not lying; it's called empathy.
I suggest if one doesn't want to say RIP, one says whatever they think will best convey what is in their heart.

Somehow, I think "hope you're in h3ll" will not catch on to replace "RIP".

I always liked Sylvester Stallone since the original Rocky. He seemed like a very genuine person. My prayers go out to his family.

What kind of name is Sage? Were his brothers and sisters named Parsley Stallone, Rosemary Stallone, and Thyme Stallone?

But at least she killed Tuco, the Mexican bandit, with poisoned cakes in Godfather III before she died.
