Syrian protesters demand Annan's removal amid reports of 'massacre'

Syrian protesters Friday demanded the removal of international envoy Kofi Annan after hundreds of deaths a day earlier blamed on shelling by government forces, opposition activists said.

Annan - a former U.N. chief - is serving as a special envoy to Syria for the United Nations and the Arab League.

He implemented a peace plan in Syria in April, but opposition fighters and regime forces have largely shunned its mandates, including a call to lay down their weapons.

"It is clear that the Annan mission is no more than providing more time to Assad to remain in power and commit atrocities, killings and massacres," said Ahmed, an activist from Homs who did not want all his names used for safety reasons. "He is but a legitimate cover for the crimes of the Assad regime."

Protesters took to the streets at dawn in solidarity with victims of government shelling late Thursday that left at least 220 dead in the village of Tremseh in Hama province, according to the opposition Local Coordination Committees of Syria.

      banasy,
Watch for the MSM to make a mindful effort to stay away from the phrase "weapons of mass destruction". I suspect tyey'll use phrases like, "illegal chemical arms" or "deadly biological agents". Laughable! I really think they think we are that brainwashed!

      Rev:
I didn't believe it in Iraq, and I won't believe it now...they may put a different name to it, with a cute little acronym, but it's still hysterical warfare, as far as I'm concerned...

Simple minded idiots blaming israel again for defending itself... if these evil countries did not continually attack or threaten israel and would accept any peace offer that didnt include driving the jews into the sea ...israel and america would not be so diligent in its monitoring of "peacefull nke energy program".. pres. eisenhower warned us that after ww2 russia was securing deals with various arab countries near the suez canal. if trouble happened it would raise the cost of mid east oil and europe would buy more of russia's . every mid east war arabs have been given russian weapons...wake up goof ballz! james ainoris

Also any of you antisemetic conspiracy types...aipac is funded largely through protestant christian groups in america... since they know we will allow the to maintain and visit their holy sites safely. on the otherhand the vatican still does not recocognize israel as a country...must still be mad about saladin kickin richard the lion hearteds butt and puttin us (jews) back in where god wanted us...so not all moslems are bad... in fact they were the most educated and tolerant people (moors) until driven out of spain with the jews. i cant believe ther are people that still think israel has some secret deal to drag america into war....you all obviously listen to art bell alot...lol.
