Report: Three men claim they were abused by Sandusky in '70s, '80s

Police are aware of three men who say they were abused in the 1970s or 1980s by former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, CNN contributor Sara Ganim reports for the Harrisburg Patriot News.

The allegations are the first to involve claims of abuse by the coach before the 1990s. During Sandusky's child rape trial, his defense argued that it is rare for someone to suddenly become a pedophile in their later years.

After a three-week trial featuring emotional and often graphic testimony from eight of the former Penn State assistant football coach's victims, a 12-person jury late Friday night convicted him on 45 of 48 counts. There were convictions related to all 10 victims alleged by prosecutors, with the three not-guilty verdicts applying to three individuals.

The verdict prompted people in central Pennsylvania to breathe a sigh of relief, believing a man many called a "monster" would pay the price for his crimes and their impact on his victims, as well as the Penn State community.

As the jury was deliberating, more accusers - including his own adopted son - were speaking publicly for the first time about alleged abuse.

they should do the same thing to Sandusky as he did to those boys and as for Mrs.Sandusky there is no way that women
couldn't hear the boys screaming from the basement. She needs to be in prison for the rest of her life because she allowed that to happen.

@Bryan: although I your point in what you are saying about child labor, you can't tell people they don't care about children because they buy products made in China. Sometimes it's impossible to find items not made there. Instead of bashing people here about buying Chinese made products go after the manufacturers that source the work there. They are the ones who "don't care" as you say. Also if you could please show me your TV, computer (that you typed your original comment one) and phone that you use. I'm pretty sure they were made in China. If you are so against Chinese made products maybe you should look in the mirror before bashing people on here.

Any sentence less than life without parole would be an injustice.

It is easy to blame the coach for everything because he is dead. It is easy to say he was Italian and successful, so doing illegal things is "in his blood". It is easy to say that because Paterno was Catholic he condoned pedophilia. It is hard to believe that the State College police and the local DA took orders from the local football coach! Really? The police and the DA refused to further watch Sandusky because they were worried what they local football coach would say or do? What kind of police department and local DA does State College have?
State College is the name of the town that Penn State is located right next to Penn State – where Sandusky lived. University Park is the name of the actual Penn State campus. The State College local police also have legal jurisdiction within University Park. People blogging here do not seem to understand this. The State College DA, not the football coach should have had Sandusky in front of a grand jury in 1998. Since when do football coaches arrest and put people in jail?

In 1998 the police ran an illegal wiretap on Sandusky and were afraid they would go to jail. To listen in on a phone conversation in PA. you need the consent of both parties or a warrant. They had neither. Did the university buy him off to avoid a lawsuit?

I say instead of time, put him to death, but wait, that's to easy. Put him among the rapist who hate to hear about children being molested. Pay backs is the best option for him. I say give him life without parole.

I think they should tear down every single statue and picture of Joe Paterno, Sandusky's wife should also be charged for not doing anything about what she saw for so many many years.

This is all so disgusting! What is just as disturbing if not more so is the fact these people took in foster kids and adopted children. How many of these foster kids around our country are with a jerry sandusky right now?

And to Sara Ganim, I was your biggest fan. I defended you to everyone. I believed in what you were doing. Until you did that hit piece on Matt Sandusky. Was it really necessary to drag him through the mud like that. Did it make you feel good to expose every lurid detail of his life to the whole world? Was there any relevant piece of information anywhere in that article that was worth what you did to that man? Congrats on the Pulitzer. Hope it was worth it.

And just a reminder if your child suffers from depression, draw your child out and find out exactly ehat's going on.( Some parents just force their kids on medication.) There are REASONS for a child acting out in an abusive way, and more often than not, it's because the child was abused.
As far as these men waiting decades and then holleriing "Raype!'. Too late, chowderheads. They should have told your parents, and if their parents did nothing, as soon as they were old enough to report the crime to the proper authorities, should have done so. They failed and hould not pass Go and collect 200 dollars. Actually, they should be in trouble for keeping it a secret for so long.

What the holy heck does Halloween have to do with anything?
      Oh, that's right, nothing.
Not to mention the fact that most parents accompany their children Trick or Treating!
I someone gets turned on by looking at a kid dressed up as a Ninja Turtle, banning Halloween isn't going to cure that!
      Jesus!
      How absurd!
