Police log: 'I need somebody to shut this movie off'
Following is a preliminary, raw transcript of the first 30 minutes of the call log from Aurora Police Department dispatch tapes after the fatal shootings at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
1:00:07 315 and 314, first shooting at century theatres, 14 300 East Alameda avenue, they're saying somebody's shooting in the auditorium. 01:00:16
01:00:30 315 and 314 there is at least 1 person that's been shot but they're saying there's hundreds of people just running around. 01:00:36

if i was there, turning off the movie projector would have been the last thing going through my mind. My prayers to all.
The loud volume of the movie was probably making the situation even more chaotic, this the police asking it to be shut off.
The rescuers were obviously trying to help the victims. When the projector is running, the house lights are OFF and the movie is VERY VERY LOUD! Getting the projector off so they could do their job should have been one of the FIRST things to happen.
@Charles, that request from police would have likely been to remove sounds from the movie (explosions, gunshots) so that responders could determine what was really happening versus coming through the movie sound effects.
That's why you weren't there, if the movie is still playing – and officers try to get inside the theater, they cannot pay attention to real bullets vs movie bullets, they cannot hear cries for help clearly and it's very risky without knowing if there are more gunmen inside. It's quite silly of you to think that movie shutting off is unrelated to the emergency.
The cops cannot hear what is going on or being said if the movie is still playing. Surely they want to be able to hear if more shots are being fired. Makes sense to me.
They needed to shut off the movie so that they could evaluate the threat. Having gunfire and loud explosions from the movie makes it difficult to figure out where or if there is more gunfire going on.
Working a active shooting and the movie has a lot of shooting in it would confuse the officers about what was a real shot and what was a sound effect from the movie. It was probably so loud they couldn't hear the victims or witnesses speak. I cac only imagine searching for the gunman with all the sound effects present in that movie would be a hair raising experiance.
As others have noted, it was very important to get the movie shut down because they needed to hear what was actually important like the cries of injured people, more gunshots, people yelling "he went that way" etc. Presumably this was either one of those theatres without a live projectionist or he/she was not in there for obvious reasons.
It was probably hard to communicate with the victims with the movie blaring in the background.

Demons, huh? Really? How about weak gun control laws that let people like this idiot arm themselves to the teeth? By blaming mythological beings, all you're really doing is capitulating and not taking the initiative to change laws. Gun control laws have nothing to do with it-you could steal a tractor trailer and kill way more people-Point is if you take guns out of the equation a person will find plenty of other ways to cause this chaos.
This is amazaing and sooooo scary at the same time, my heart goes out to all the victims and families. š What a shame.

Ever try to work in chaos? Having the movie off would have been a sure fire way to end some noise, calm people, and enable your senses to keep everyone safer. I understand the guy wanting the movie to stop screaming at him.

Does CNN understand that dispatch is not the "911 CALLS" ...those would be calls from people calling 911.
@Richard, even if they had them in the trunks of their cars, the first responders would not have known to take the time to get them out.
This is very very sad and a tragic event. I just can't believe that another human being would do this type of thing. I sometimes wonder what is going through people's minds. Very sad. My thoughts and prayers to families and friends of those who were killed.

When was religion disproven by science? It wasnt... never will be either. Science is best guess, just like religion is. Remember when science was 100% sure the Earth was flat? Narrow minded fools like yourself would have kept us from moving forward. Dont close yourself and your mind off to possibilites just because someone puts in text that it isnt real.
Science is all about discovery purely based on facts. As soon as they found out Earth is not flat, scientific minds were the first to get out of that theory. It was the church beurocracy that was not letting go of the old ideas and embracing new ideas based on facts.

Some people can see violent films or play violent video games and they will not go out and kill, but donāt tell me that violence in films or any media for that matter doesnāt have a negative effect on people because it does. It would be a huge job stopping the violence in media now because weāve let it get away from us but that doesnāt mean we shouldnāt at least try to stop it.
I'll tell you a secret... everything that anyone experiences has an effect on them. That is life. What you experience can mold you. This is true. But saying things like violent media can actually transform you from a normal nice everyday person into a killer is just ridiculous. You really have to already be an angry, upset, or mentally sick person to be pushed so easily by something like that.

Ye gods-can you imagine the number of casualties there might have been with EVERYONE blazing away in the dark?! All the ER's from there to Denver couldn't have handled it! conoclast, it's highly possible that if 1 person had a firearm and had clear sight to the shooter, that they could have taken him out pretty easily. Sure, there's always the risk that you could accidentally hit someone else, but that's an unkown, whereas you do know that this guy is already killing people and if someone doesn't stop him, he will continue to do it.

why is CNN constantly obsessed with playing 911 calls and social media tweets? this is a horrible event and it seems that all CNN ever does is play peoples 911 calls when they are at their most vulnerable. These should be private conversations, not public entertainment.
