"A federal law enforcement official tells CNN that all of the guns found at the scene of the shooting were purchased legally at Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain Guns"

Feds have the point of sale fool proof approval magic machine. Was that unplugged or something or did the Feds approve that sale. He hat priors for assult here so he should have been on the radar. That's your tax dollars hard at work. build and maintain a multi-million dollar system that doesn't work and blame this on the people who weren't walking around shooting people, whose guns were at home in a safe where they belong. Yes guns kill. I'm impressed you people noticed that because the obvious seems to consistently escape you. You folks voted on putting the instant back ground check in place, have any of you tried to see if works? We couldn't even keep the amendment banning booze off the books, you want to try to change the second (in order of of apperance) article to the Constiution? Good luck with that. That one on there to stay and the who signs the bill to try to remove one of our founding father's original 10 commandments will lose his job. These guys we elect, they really don't care much about us. We're a number on election day.

I am all for allowing U.S. citizens the right to bear arms however...mental exam may be needed to qualify the gun toting individual. The main problem is that there are so many guns available illegally or so it seems, but again, this is not about gun control this is about a very mentally disturbed person that has taken lives and destroyed families. I am a parent of a 28 year old son and I know that if my son was capable of this I would know. WHERE ARE HIS PARENTS???

You are ultimately responsible for protecting/feeding/clothing/educating/housing yourself....in other words, your own survival is your main goal, like all other forms of life on the planet. If you feel that this is not necessary, then don't. But don't tell me that I cant either because you don't feel safe. If you think that we can "regulate" ourselves away from needles, tragic deaths then you are wrong. We are so fooled that we can change who we are as a species, I would protect my family like a momma bear protects her cubs, regardless of weather or not the Gov told me if a was allowed to or not.

Feel free to have guns and keep them in your house, just don't bring them out into public where you might end up shooting me in the back while trying to "protect yourself". Like you said, I'm protecting myself by trying to keep guns out of the hands of people untrained to use them... which no doubt is.... you.

Mass shootings have been exploited effectively by pro-gun groups to promote legislation allowing ordinary citizens to carry concealed weapons in public places.

I can't believe these posts. Most poeple on here sound just as crazy as the lunatic who pulled the trigger in the theather. I know most are trolls looking to get a rise out of someone – but I have to think there are some of you that actually believe the crap that you are saying.

Bottom line – I person who was a phsycopath in the making for many years lost all empathy for anything which allowed him to act in a way that most of us could never possibly imagine.

This is not about guns, rock and roll, MTV or if skateboarding is a crime. This is about a society that turns it's back to people in need and fails to recognize the many signs along the way or chooses not act on them. I'm sure this was preventable.

I couldn't agree with you more. Cause of things like this is complete lack of apathy to people in need from the people who are suppose to help them the most. It's sad. And that's what has to change.

A "lack of apathy" would mean, A lack of a lack of emotion, which would mean having emotion.

Hey Scott, a bit of help from someone who shares the same name. I think you meant Empathy the ability to sympathize and relate to ohers emotional states. Not Apathy which means to have no Empathy. "A" often attached to the begining of a word usually means "non" as in A-Theism meaning to follow no theology?

Ok everyone is talking about gun control what could have prevented this from happening . Its sad to say i dont think it could have been prevented. Who can predict the future and what someones going to do unless they say it. Also even if he did not have access to a gun or guns he seemed to know about explosives . I just dont see what anything could have been done to avoid it. I see a lot of coverage also about bashing the parents of the small children in the movie theater being there at midnight. I see nothing wrong with having your child out to go see a late movie , Its not like they brought there kids to a bar. What i do see a problem with is a man walking in the place and opening fire. My prayers go out to the victims and there familes may god be with them all.

You can't legislate the unlegislatable. Banning firearms is not going to keep them out of the hands of criminals and crazies. Do guns make it easier to harm multiple victims quickly and efficiently? Yes. Hopefully, on a daily basis, the option to arm oneself to DEFEND life and property is offset by the occasional nutjob who wants to inflict maximum damage on innocents. Guys like this are unpredictable and it's hard to defend against freaks like him.

What I would like to know is what a 7 y/o is doing in a movie theater at 12:00 am watching a movie that is extremely violet. The first 20 minutes of the movie people are being shot in the head by the Joker and getting stabbed in eyes. The kid should be in bed sleeping with his teddy bear!

Get a baby sitter for your kids or wait til the movie comes out on DVD. Why are people bringing 3 year olds and 3 month old babies to a midnight movie showing? They should be in bed.

I would like to comment on the professionalism of the police and their dispatchers which can be seen in the transcript and the recordings. This was obviously a very chaotic and very stressful situation and yet most of the officers and their dispatcher remained calm. Good job.

  13. Amazing...

nANCI, your response is ridiculous. The right to bare arms was not primarily meant so we could hunt for food. It is the right of the citizens to protect themselves, it is also there so the citizens have protection from a government that has too much power. We can never have a 100% police state. It won't work. Not in this country. And I have news for you, the majority of crimes involving guns occur with people who don't even own a registered gun, they get them illegally. If you planned to shoot someone would you use a gun that is registered in your name? I wouldn't. Criminals get their guns illegally, and no matter what laws you put in place, they are going to get them illegally anyway. Don't be ridiculous with your comments, this a tragic accident, and taking guns away from the citizens is NOT the answer, it would make it worse. How much easier would it be to rob peoples homes if you KNEW they were not armed? Eh?

Nanci's reply is not ridiculous. My son owns a small handgun. I can see people having the right to arm themselves, but why do you need an assault rifle with a hundred rounds to defend your house against intruders when a small handgun will do. You don't need to use 100 bullets in two minutes or less to defend yourself. The only ones who use assault rifles are those bent on killing a lot of people, period. I would feel much better if it were illegal to obtain, at least there would be fewer people carrying them, because they would be harder and more expensive to purchase. And you could be arrested if you were seen with one.

Most people do have a small handgun or rifle. How can you compare normal people using their rights with a man that planned mass murder? He is not the same!!! He planned this and did not just go into an ammo shop and buy all those bullets he spread it out. Bought it online planning this sick act. That is not a normal law abiding citizen. If he came into your home you sure as heck would hope you had something to protect yourself and your family. How can you think the government should take law abiding citizens protection away so they are at the mercy of murderers? Don't you think criminals would know you had nothing and take advantage?

Good comeback.. now grow a brain and explain why that person should "shut up" as you so elequently replied. If you do, maybe people will respect your viewpoint.

But until then please refrain from vocalizing your simplicities until you get some big boy pants.

That's amazing, eh? How many more people would rob a house if they knew they weren't armed?
Well here in Canada we aren't armed and our home robberies, even after taking into account the difference in population is FAR, far less than what is seen in the US.. would you care to try to think up a reason for this might be?

Actually it was never meant so we could hunt for food. It was put in place so that the citizens had a right to own something that would help defend themselves against a tyrannical or oppressive government. Think of it in the context of where the citizens of the new US were coming from and the reason they fought against England in the first place.
Note there is no reference to hunting or food. Only security and protection for a free state...

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

If you take this literal, as we all should, it also means the government cannot enact laws which restrict or prevent ownership of any gun, ammo, or magazine capacity. Specifically, the amendment says our right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed"...

Almost no one complains about the violent shoot 'em up video games played non-stop for hours on end, shooting anyone and everyone while players are protected with body gear and as many weapons as they can carry in the game. Life being presented as meaningless and fun to terminate as rapidly as possible. I think this is what happens when you train kids to kill everyone, and drum it into them in violent movies in theaters, TV shows, video games, rap music saying to kill everyone, news reports idolizing it, and violent books. How about training kids to be more peaceful and less violent, or is that not fun enough to entertain them adequately?

People that kill people, it's what they think about killing, that's what causes them to kill. The guns don't do anything on their own, they just sit there, in a cabnet, in a policeman's holster, where ever... guns just sit there doing nothing on their own, much like your kitchen knife, that can also kill someone.

People do complain about those games, music, and movies and get laughed at as overreacting, or being paranoid or being out to spoil someone's fun. But I don't see how anyone can feed their minds on a steady diet of that kind of stuff and not be affected by it to some degree.
