Nine athletes banned for doping offenses

A total of nine athletes, including Olympic bronze medalist Nataliya Tobias, have tested positive for "sophisticated doping" offenses, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has confirmed.

Six of those athletes were caught using a new "biological passport" method, which builds up a profile of each individual over a prolonged period of time.

The remaining three, including Tobias who came third in the women's 1500 meters in Beijing four years ago, were suspended after further analysis of samples they gave at the World Championships in Daegu last year.

"Today's announcements underline the IAAF's continued and unwavering campaign against doping in athletics," IAAF President Lamine Diack said in a statement on their official website.

"They demonstrate the IAAF's commitment to use advanced methods to detect doping and to enforce increased sanctions when justified.

"We will not stint in our resolve to do everything in our power to eradicate cheating."

FYI, the article says it "includes" those members of each respective country, it doesn't say "consists of" or any other exhaustive language.

They're using 'includes' to be exhaustive since there were 9 athletes suspended and they listed a total of 9 athletes from 6 countires.

what an ignorant post... Go back and do a little research and you'll find its done by many, including Americans. Look at Dr. Wade Exum's report on Anericans doping! It included 5 time gold medalist Carl Lewis, or how about Canadian Ben Johnson – losing the gold (given to Carl Lewis, if that's not irony). Or how about Irish swimmer Michele Smirh??? I could list so many..., your comment about communists and Muslims only shows ignorance and bigotry... no place for it at the Olympics.. Cheating is cheating no matter who does it, but it is practiced by all groups

Perhaps mjritter .... but only athletes from communist and muslim countires were sent home in this instance.

doping? and what's new. the whole thing is silly. my cat lays around for 18 hours a day. whines a little then leaps up to the bath room window WITHOUT any effort at all. that would be like a man high jumping about 30 feet. man is pretty lame.

How does this compare to previous Olympics?
    Is this an improvement?
What exactly are 'doping offenses'? (Steroids only?)
What sports were the athletes scheduled to compete in?
Remember when journalism was informative, unbiased, and factual?
I wonder if that will ever return?

Do you recall 20 yrs. ago, when someone did suicede they slipped away quietly? Find out why we have new terms such as "road rage" & "bi-polar" to describe ourselves and our behaviors...why the new suicidal persons "go postal" on your ass.
Learn the truth about what lab tests showed before SSRIs were allowed to be legally prescribed. How can inhibiting your brains natrual seratonin level even possibly be called "therapy" based on what we KNOW?

Well, I think it's cheating to import well trained athletes from other countries to compete for US anyway...dope or no.
(just as foreign trained soldiers who go AWOL and fight for your God&Country instead of their own...recruited by Colin Powells Cobat Svcs. Ltd.) At least this international crime kept being drafted into the military away.

*Combat Svcs. Lmt., rather. An organization that violated International Law. It is illegal for one country to recruit soldiers from another countries army.
Did you know that a Chilean grunt recieves the same training US SPECIAL FORCES recieve? And that Chilean soldierss who went AWOL to wear a US uniform started out in YOUR army getting paid 5,800/mo.? How much do they pay your newly recruited son?

Well, arent athlestes SUPPOSED to represent their home country?
If none of the USAs athletes were using drugs, they wouldn't be representing US at all. USians spend more on mind-altering drugz than on national defense. US althletes represent this. (microcosm)
