Julian Assange's mother arrives in Ecuador to plead son's asylum case

The mother of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will meet with Ecuadorian authorities Monday to urge them to grant her son asylum.

Christine Assange, who arrived in the capital city Quito on Saturday, told reporters she will appeal to Ecuador's stance on human rights during her meeting.

"Surely, the president and his staff will make the best decision," Christine Assange said, according to a report in the state-run El Ciudadano website.

Her son has been holed up inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since applying for political asylum on June 19.

He is seeking to avoid being sent to Sweden over claims of rape and sexual molestation and said he fears if he is extradited there, Swedish authorities could hand him over to the United States.

If her son is sent to the United States, he "could expect a sentence of death or many years in prison with torture as they are doing now with Bradley Manning," Christine Assange said, according to the El Ciudadano report.

"If they did that to a U.S. citizen, they would have fewer qualms about doing a foreigner."

    @sold out you need to learn to interpret scripture correctly...jesus never showed an ounce of disdain toward his mother...the passage if anything commemorates mary's actions as disciple...she is the first disciple and the first apostle. she said yes to will of God for the salvation of humanity and her whole life was dedicate to doing god's will...you should read the passage the biblical passage known as the manificat...this is a proclaimation of her personhood. lastly god commanded that one should honor thy father and mother...jesus would have done this...now sold out be a goodboy and do the same...

    Assange's mother has my sympathies, a mother's due. A solace for a person so persecuted.
    On 9/11, its not just the money trail and those that gained the most in the blood stained insurance and such but which country is having the last laugh.

    9/11 was an easier crime to solve than many bank robberies have been. Just as a bank robber can't wait to spend the money he stole, ditto those whom profited from 9/11.
    Who made the most money off of 9/11? OK. Now track their finances. Bingo. Busted.

    The guillotine wasn't born until 1789. There were devices used for cutting heads off before 1789, but they weren't guillotines. Dr. Guillotin wanted a more humane captial punishment, in fact he wanted to do away with capital punishment. Look what happened. Nazi Germany loved this device, also. In love with stuff that dealt death quickly, those.

    @ saywhat, you have my utmost respect and always will. But there is alot of merit in what Victoria says. And as you have not been one of his targets youre most likely not aware of how ruthless he is. There are valid reasons ppl feel this way. Watch & see!
