'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

"The chain won't release sales numbers"

This from a chain that lies about product recalls and makes up fake Facebook profiles that end up being epic fails.

The whole thing was nothing but a bunch of mindless sheep shoving chicken into their faces because they thought their right to hate gays might be taken away, causing them to fall out of favor with a zombie carpenter and his ghost dad.

So let me get this straight:
The GLBT community is open and honest in public about their deep seated views on gay marrage and everyone is expected to agree.
Dan Cathy is open and honest in public about his deep seated personal views on gay marrage and everyone is expected to blackball his company.

Interesting. I guess "rights" are a one way street.

incorrect. Anyone in this country should be able to voice their opinion or beliefs without fear of reprisal, monitary or otherwise.

'Anyone in this country should be able to voice their opinion or beliefs without fear of reprisal, monitary or otherwise."

dont be silly. The freedom of speech does not include a freedom from people reacting to that speech, only a freedom from the government blocking it.

I'm glad Chikfila spoke out just as I'm glad the Muppets spoke out. As long as everyone is talking - even angrily - we will come to a resolution. And that resolution will be to recognize that the Government has no say in who you kiss, love or pledge fidelity to.

Enjoy this last bit of hate, conservatives. The country progresses over the top of you. It did in the 1860s, the 1920s, the 1970s and will in the 2010s. But hey, keep hating as long as you want.

I had never been to CFA until this started, I am tired of intolerant gays calling people names for not bending over for them every time they demand something. I am not religious but Dan Cathy has a right to his beliefs. If gays stop going there that is fine, CFA has new customers in me and many others forever. Face it, this protest by intolerant gays backfired, they awoke a sleeping giant.

It is frightening that you lump everyone, even of a certain race, into one category. I passed two Chick-Fil-A's yesterday and saw plenty of African-Americans. Stop stereotyping. What does gay marriage have to do with someone's skin color?

I can't get over the fact that these dimwits who are making Chik Fil A even richer, are realizing that their money is going to organizations that are hateful towards the gay community. These people think it's about free speech? If the CEO of CHIK fil a was a racist, I doubt they would be supporting him on appreciation day and calling it free speech.

Why not be truthful here? These people do not tolerate the gay community. Just like back in the day when the blacks had to fight for their rights against the white man. This is the same thing. A whole community has to fight for basic marriage laws that are ONLY given to a man and a woman. Free speech is just an excuse. This is about bigots.

I am glad of this result. It is sad when deviants gather together and try to take a basic right away from an American such as Mr. Cathy's Freedom of Speech. So Justice has prevailed in this case rejecting the disease of Anthrax in this country.
The TRUE JUSTICE will be administered in November when America take this country back from the greatest threat in its history since WWII, FROM THE OBAMA ADMINSTRATION AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Nancy Pelosi and her sidekick moron Reid have held this country HOSTAGE for years and its time this disease gets cured.

The "norm" has been restored, validated and verified by the people. Traditional values are here to stay. Alternative lifestyles will never be passed off, taught in schools, etc....as "normal", they are not....period. More importantly, the alternative lifestyle community will NEVER dictate to others that "unless you agree with us, we can make things rough for you."..............Not gonna happen.............ever.

Yeah gdaym8. Way to preach more hate. Gays aren't normal? Do you know any? Maybe if your kid grows up and is gay, you will realize what a true family is. Because you are the chosen one, and it's your way or the highway right? You are a true bigot. I hope one day you are discriminated against so you can get a taste of what it is like. Keep on hating though. It will bite you in the ass one day. Better yet, keep eating at Chik Fil A and clog up your arteries. The more I think about it, I hope your kid doesn't turn out to be gay. The poor thing will probably get skinned alive by you. But that is normal in your eyes because you can't do no wrong. Idiot.

lol...you sound as ignorant as the rest of your bigoted brothers and sisters. I guess you're blind to the fact more and more people are coming out in support of alternative lifestyles than ever. More states are acknowledging the rights of everyone to enjoy the bond of marriage. Watch as your bigoted world shrinks before your eyes. Eventually, it will be just a handful of hateful bigots such as yourself, surrounded by the enlightened many. Your kind will eventually go the way of the dodo. Extinct.

Is there really a secret conspiracy by GLAAD to increase Chick Fil A's market share in the fast food industry? Do they not see that the protests they are initiating are having the opposite effect, and causing individuals to 'flock' to these restaurants in support of free speech? If I was McDonalds or Taco Bell I would say something about GLAAD or Abortion or some other fringe organization to try to stop the market share bleeding.
