'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

So... the battlefield over gay marriage is taking place in fast food restaurants that serve chicken sandwiches? If I wasn't an atheist I'd think the apocolypse is surely coming. Up next, Ronald McDonald bible study classes and occupy Burger King (he surely must be part of the 1%, he's a king!).

  3. CFA Funds Hate Groups

In the Winter 2010 issue of its magazine, Intelligence Report, the Southern Poverty Law Center designated the FRC as a hate group,[27][28] saying that the organization "pushed false accusations linking gay men to pedophilia".[29]

The family research council regularly accepts large donations from the WinShape Foundation a charitable arm of parent company Chick-Fil-A[32][33][34]

For everyone that is confused about what the big deal is.... this is the reason. No one cares if the president is anti-gay marriage, a lot of people are.

GLAAD: Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. It is an anti-hate group. It is like the NAACP. It is sad if you can't see that.

Also, yes it is his money and the corporation's money and a lot of people don't want to give their money to him so that he can fund hate groups. It is not a difficult concept.

"In cased you haven';t noticed, majority rules."
Not in this country it doesn't. Our laws are built to protect the rights of the minority so the majority can not trample them underfoot. Try again.

Yeah, gay people had to fight for that as they are fighting for Marriage now. Separate but Equal is not working, again. You and Cathy should live your lives and stay out of ours.

No magic required mj, but the truth is if you don't believe you will be left behind. There are millions of good reasons that every country, since day one have been given reasons by the jews to hate them. jews reap what they sow and every person must go into the military. Nuff said and again, if you don't believe you will be left behind. period, the end!!

The BIBILICAL definition of a family unit? Really – it defines that in the Bible? It does NOT. These people are bigots plain and simple, and will cite the Bible in support of that. Shameful. Totally shameful.

The majority sides with gay people getting married. Even if they didn't it shouldn't matter. Who voted on your marriage?

I hope when Mr Cathy stands before his God he is judged with the same compassion, tolerance, consideration and respect he has shown to others.

This is not an issue of free speech. Dan Cathy has the right to say what ever he wants, just as others have the right to boycott. The gay community is upset because Chick-fil-a has donated at least 5 million dollars to anti-gay/hate groups. This is a CIVIL RIGHTS issue. Gays are fighting to have the same rights as married couples (health insurance, benefits, etc). I don't understand why there is so much hate towards people who want the right to love eachother openly with discrimination.
As for those who claim to be conservative republicans – please remember that the republican party is based on less government, yet all conservatives want to talk about is how to govern women's bodies and who can or cannot get married. Also, remember we do have a separation of church and state for a reason.

If everyone who is upset with Chick-Fil-A would read the interview, you would see that he says he is for the traditional definition of marriage. He doesnt bash gays or gay rights, he is not running a campaign against gays or gay rights. You have a right to disagree with him, but to boycott his business just becuase his personal views are different than your?!?!?!?! you are the ones needing help, not him.

That does not make sense. It's about people's rights to do what they please. I am a strong conservative, but this is flat out HATE from you and this company. are comparing cows to human beings? The freedom for speech is not in question here, but when a company pays 5million dollars to discriminate is something people should think about. I wonder why the lines at the Volunteer Food Bank are not as long as these lines if these are the same people who believe in the "Biblical" word.
