'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

i would like a christian in this forum to explain their basis and their right to Judge. the Christ that everyone professes to love and serve, as a Christian, asked and messaged that his followers were not to judge, to turn the other cheek, to forgive their brothers and their sisters....continually. i just don't understand how the religious right feels it has any place in judging someone else or dictating what Caesar (i.e. the government) legislates. Christians, get out of the pole business and the opinion business. Take the log out of your own eye. Start and finish there.

This world has already been judged and it is because of Jesus the Christ's finished work on the cross that all men have been sparred this awsome and holy judgement that we all deserve. I think that there is a misunderstanding that believers in Jesus the Christ are not to judge. We are called to judge other believers so that their souls may be saved in the day of the Lord. The tricky part is instructing non-believers in the precepts of The Holy God. It is not I who judge but the law of The Holy God that brings sin to light, the Holy Spirit of God convicts man of their need for Jesus the Christ's free gift of salvation and it is Jesus the Christ's precious blood that was shed for all man's sin that gives us peace with The Holy God(for the wages of sin is death, the blood is the life of a person so there must be the shedding of blood to cover sin). Without the blood of Jesus the Christ covering a person the wrath of The Holy God remains on them and that person will be judges by the true lamb of God, Jesus the Christ at the day of His return. Love is our calling from Jesus the Christ, that means even if you don't like what I say, I must tell you if I love you. Christians are just people and do have difficulties getting the truths across in a loving way, especially if they are caught up in their own sin.
I hope this helps, it is difficult to explain spiritual things in a forum like this, please let me know if you need any clarification.
      In Love

He didn't judge he only said he believes in the traditional definition of marriage. And that society was shaking. Its fist at god. His opinion based on his belief. Its the gays who are being judgmental, and intolerent. Trying to tell people they can't have an opinion or right to free speech

Its a soothing feeling when someone speaks up on such morale issues cos there ain't many voices being heard in opposition to that, mainly because of societal opinions, backlashes or reactions which many don't want to get tangled with. But the word of God says that "there is a way that seems right onto a man but the end thereof is destruction.

Wow! The far left, is always saying the rest of us should be more open to there life styles and opinions. Its there right of expression and speech. But that only applies if you agree with them. Which the vast majority of us do not. So much for free speech, and religion. And isn't it a federal crime to discriminate, based on race, religion, national ancestory. Etc. Has anyone mentioned that to the mayors that told chic filet they can't build there based on somebody's personal religious beliefs. Who cares what the gays think anyways they ain't nobody. Go chic filet! Our whole office enjoyed lunch from there and will continue to do so!

Where is the ACLU in all this. I'd expect them to be front and center stating that the owner can say and do whatever he wants. Surprisingly (said with a dash of sarcasm) since it's not a leftist belief, the ACLU is amazingly silent.

"Gay" is just a cover word for sodomy. There is nothing clean, good or natural about sodomy.

The only Natural Marriage is One Woman and One Man.

Don't feel forced into obliging bad behavior. Stand up for clean and natural.

"Convictions, especially biblical ones, will divide people. That is inevitable, but not desirable. The separation of believers and unbelievers, when it happens, must be a last resort or an unavoidable...result. Actions to the contrary, those that clearly promote an “us versus them” mentality, are most often unhelpful. How is the Kingdom of God served by this? Is Jesus represented well to the gay community? Marching on Chick-fil-A like an army will produce nothing more than defined battle lines, and the result will be greater contention and fewer softened hearts. On both sides." – Barnabas Piper

Personally, I loved seeing all the obese white trash conservatives stuffing their three-chin faces with chicken as I drove by my Chick-Fil-A. I can only hope everyday is Chick-Fil-A day so they'll go back, stuff their fat faces even more, die at a young age, and leave the country in the hands of the grown ups so we can clean up the mess they made.

Yeah... because you certainly set the standard for "grown up" comment of the day... Anyone who eats at Chick-fil-A is white? and Trash? And fat? Someone is in love with throwing stereotypes around... For the record, I went to Chick-fil-A yesterday and today in Orange county. I have been there perhaps 10 times in my life. But I support them against the intolerance, bigotry and hatred they have endured simply because they stand for their values. you know who I saw there? Lots of asian folks, caucasian folks, African American folks, Middle Eastern folks. Many of them very fit and and even some overweight folks of various ethnicities. I myself am a "white guy" who is highly into fitness. how about we refrain from silly stereotypes when they don't apply. and for goodness sake, let's not pretend that you are a grown up and anyone who disagrees with you is a child. Nothing worse than seeing someone try to "clean up" after someone else with filthy, soiled rags.

Bill, you are actually helping them by encouraging them to eat chicken. They need to back to their beef (and since beef is expensive the other so white meat with fat and cholesterol: pork), leave the chicken ... 🙂
It does not matter if one does not approve of gay-marriage, it is a discrimination that they approve of.
We'll see how long the spike will continue, I am not eating there, if it is the last place on earth left. And I admired thei Christian values, until they became bigots.
