'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

Chik-Fil-Hate gives millions of dollars to organizations that persecute gay people. So, no, we can't all get along. Your patroage of this hick chicken shack is an insult to your gay friends.

What is the world coming too when exercising free speech is hateful and makes people feel sick. Don't like it, don't buy his sandwich. The same reason you can defend gay rights is the reason they can say their opinion. There is no discrimination, just free speech. Last time I checked, gay people weren't relegated to the back of the bus or separate water fountains.
The reason they mention the "south" is because CNN is headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. Chic-Fil-A is nationwide.
I support gay marriage. I also support someone's right to disagree. That's called open minded!

Get a clue – this hasn't been about free speech. It's about Chik-fil-a donating millions of CORPORATE dollars to organizations who's sole purpose is to demonize the rights of LGBT people. Congratulations on supporting the effort, I'm sure Jesus would be proud of you.

Free speech is not biggotry, banning them is............Americans showed free speech again those on this blog decrying them are the real biggots and the reason why Chick Fil A will be a top fast food resteraunt sooner rather than later. IT;s called the Air America effect. Liberals decry a business it storms ahead and is massively successful, Libs endorse something it dies.........why? Because Americans hate liberals especailly mouthy ones whining to get their own way.

Hate in a box? Because one person, speaking as an individual, expressed his opinion about families? What exactly has the restaurant done to discriminate against any of its customers? Do they ask people if they're gay when they place their order. Better look in the mirror for the hate spewing.

The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men." – Isaiah 29:13, The Holy Bible (NIV)
Shame on these people for supporting this man's judgment against people who only desire to have something that takes nothing away from anyone else.

Actually there is one...just one in Michigan. It is in Rochester,Michigan at Oakland University food court. Never eaten at it, but several friends have raved about it in the past. So I suppose my boycotting wouldn't make much of a difference since I was never going to eat there anyway.

"Nope... privately owned..Free speech forever!" An analyst was saying they will probably have to go public in a few years to consolidate if they survive the shrinkage this will cause. If they do, you guys should buy up the stock before McDonald's gets it all. Try to keep it in the family.

Question: does chic-fil-a make sure that all of its employees are straight? Cause I would not be surprised if there was plenty of spitting (or worse) in food by gay employees that day. At least occupy wall streeters had the decency not to show up at chick-fil-a's and vomit in front of patrons.

Didn't Jesus say, "Love thy neighbor as thyself?" And didn't He create all of us in His image? And doesn't He love each of us as we are, not as we should be? It is pathetic to see the righteousness of these so-called Christians.....Jesus must be disappointed in humanity to use religion to discriminate and hate his fellow creatures.

YES! All these Christian religions we have today are just the creation of man AFTER it's absurd to think that they truly represent the wishes of God or Jesus.

Jesus loved the sinners but hated the sin. Quote me one time where Jesus ever accepted their behavior. I agree there are those who take ti way to far and go off the deep end, but Jesus was very quick to point out he was seeking to save those who were lost.

People fail to realize religon was nothing more than an early form of government. Before police, courts, jails, prisons it was fabricated to instill a set of morals, and scare people from being the animals they are. Originally created for good...Its Ironic that religon has actually done more destruction, caused more wars, and deaths than anything else.
