Police chief: Temple shooting being treated as "a domestic terrorist-type incident"

[Update 5:16 p.m.] Oak Creek, Wisconsin, police Chief John Edwards said authorities are treating Sunday's shooting at a Sikh temple in that community as a "domestic terrorist-type incident," adding that the FBI will head the investigation. There was a service going on at the time of the shooting. Edwards was not willing to divulge any information about the shooter or the victims. No one is still inside the temple, he said.

[Update 4:52 p.m.] President Barack Obama said Sunday in a statement that "at this time, the people of Oak Creek must know that the American people have them in our thoughts and prayers" and vowed to "provide whatever support is necessary." He added, "As we mourn this loss which took place at a house of worship, we are reminded how much our country has been enriched by Sikhs, who are a part of our broader American family."

[Updates 2:45 p.m.] Greenfield police Chief Brad Wentlandt says four people were found dead inside the temple, three dead outside; one of those outside was the gunman.

[Updates 2:27 p.m.] The suspect shot by an officer was killed, authorities said.

[Update 1:57 p.m.] One officer was shot multiple times, and one suspect was also shot, Greenfield police Chief Brad Wentlandt said. The officer is expected to survive. Wentlandt said the suspect was "put down."

[Update 1:42 p.m.] People are believed to be trapped inside the temple, the area's city councilman said. "As far as I know, it is still an active situation," Alderman Dan Jakubczyk told CNN.

    Ok!. that's enough said!
Once and for all, Sikhism is a religion of peace. We are warriors, defenders of faith. Our Gurus died not for their religion but defending Hindus for 'their religion'
We pay equal respect to Jesus, Allah & Ram in our scriptures. We pray to One God......
We are identified by our religion not region...Sikh are white Americans, Europeans , all the way from Mediterranean to India and beyond in Far East......
And we did not take away any jobs....we don't have to....we are damn hard workers & contribute to any economy we are part off....
We don't sponge off, We donate!!!

The point is that this is the second big shooting in the US where innocent people were killed within a short period of time. And still there are people in the US who think owning a gun is a right that should be cherished....

I lived in a town in Thailand for 3 years that had a sizable Indian community. Most were Hindu and some were Sikh. My best friend there was a Hindu Indian, in fact. But it wasn't unusual for the Hindus to attend the Sikh services. I remember my Hindu friend taking me to the Sikh temple service with her parents. So I wouldn't be surprised if there were Hindus there.

What exactally does he mean when he says that the Sikhs were unfairly targeted. Does that mean if the shooter went into a mosque and killed Muslims, then that would be fair because everyone believes Muslims were responsible for 9/11. I am just sayin. This entire tragedy is horrific. These are all signs of the rapidly approaching final hour.

Just wanted to confirm you guys, As a SIKH myself living in Houston. Sikhism is a completely different religion from Hindus or Muslims but Our religion does not discriminate on the basis of religion and Hindus/muslims/christians or any body else are most welcome in Gurudwars(sikh Temple). Pillars of our faith are 1. GOd is one 2. Work hard and Honest 3. Share with every boody. SIkhs have been living in US for almost 100 yrs now and Americans have died not just sikhs.
I am very sad at what happened and for me this is no different what happened in Colorado.

All Sikhs need to stand up and thank our muslim pakistani brothers and sisters for taking such good care of our gurdwaras in pakistan. They enable our pilgrimage to pakistan every year. No other country can do what pakistanis do for us. Some of our most religious instsitutions are in pakistan. Very few people know this. And nobody not even talibans have destryoed anyone,. thank you pakistan for your tolerance.

A Lot of Indian Hindus trying to distance themselves from Sikhs and trying to spread anti muslim fervour and schism between sikhs and muslims. Don't think you will succeed.
