Police chief: Temple shooting being treated as "a domestic terrorist-type incident"

[Update 5:16 p.m.] Oak Creek, Wisconsin, police Chief John Edwards said authorities are treating Sunday's shooting at a Sikh temple in that community as a "domestic terrorist-type incident," adding that the FBI will head the investigation. There was a service going on at the time of the shooting. Edwards was not willing to divulge any information about the shooter or the victims. No one is still inside the temple, he said.

[Update 4:52 p.m.] President Barack Obama said Sunday in a statement that "at this time, the people of Oak Creek must know that the American people have them in our thoughts and prayers" and vowed to "provide whatever support is necessary." He added, "As we mourn this loss which took place at a house of worship, we are reminded how much our country has been enriched by Sikhs, who are a part of our broader American family."

[Updates 2:45 p.m.] Greenfield police Chief Brad Wentlandt says four people were found dead inside the temple, three dead outside; one of those outside was the gunman.

[Updates 2:27 p.m.] The suspect shot by an officer was killed, authorities said.

[Update 1:57 p.m.] One officer was shot multiple times, and one suspect was also shot, Greenfield police Chief Brad Wentlandt said. The officer is expected to survive. Wentlandt said the suspect was "put down."

[Update 1:42 p.m.] People are believed to be trapped inside the temple, the area's city councilman said. "As far as I know, it is still an active situation," Alderman Dan Jakubczyk told CNN.

WTMJ reports that the gunman may be on the loose. Aerial pictures show multiple bodies in the parking lot.

The shooting happened at about 10:40 a.m. local time, according to WTMJ.

For those who don't know who Sikh's are. Sikh religion was created from the mountain-frontier state of India to fight against Muslim invaders to the country and to protect women and children from their altrocities. They stand for maintaining peace, respect and defend women and helpless and they are most honest, friendly and trustworthy community who anyone can count on when in crises. India's prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is a Sikh, who is also one of the world's greatest economist.

My guess is that it is another attack on a Muslim shrine except that Sikh's aren't Muslims. A Sikh member was killed in AZ right after 9/11 as a revenge attack by a white trash trailor park guy mistaken in his anger there as well. They wear a head piece that people mistake as Muslim. Blind hatred mistakenly placed.

Guns are not the problem. Christians are the problem. Ban Christianity....damned cowards!! They are either molesting little boys or shooting at innocent people or abusing their woman.

No it's the guns. The Christians of Europe and Canada are not like the violent American culture. Civilization does exist. Try New England. Avoid the South.

The shooter was a white male first of all. Four people were killed and and plenty injured, one being an Oak Creek police officer. Find the facts before you start making ignorant comments. First Colorado and now Wisconsin.

Sikhs are from India, which is South Asia. The derogatory you are using refers to those of African descent. You're one of them rednecks, aren't you??

As a native american, "indian" doesn't come from africa. Fyi- all mankind did originate from africa. "Indian" is the term used to talk about someone from India. And what derogatory term are you referring to about a person from Africa, might I inquire?

Nothing wrong with shootings, so long as the right people are shot.
It is, of course, a tragedy if the innocent are killed.

This is a pretty offensive statement made about Sikhism, it is not a religon that rejected scriptures from Hinduism. In fact Guru Nanak was a Hindu and sikhism actually took KHALSA shape when the 10th Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji started a separate segment of people who would follow certain rules and would be easily differentiated from the regular Hindus to fight the atrocities of the Muslim rulers.
