Viewers outraged after NBC cuts away from closing ceremonies

NBC was pummeled by viewers who took to social media after the network cut away early from the closing ceremonies of the London Games on Sunday to air a new television show, drawing outrage from those who tuned in for the highly anticipated musical spectacle.

The Twitter-sphere exploded - with "#NBCfail" and "#closingceremonies" trending worldwide - after NBC cut out performances by Ray Davies, Kate Bush, the Who and the Muse in favor of a commercial-free airing of "Animal Practice."

"I still don't understand, it's a tape delay, so can't you do the math in advance? Why do you need to cut off the closing ceremony? #nbcfail," wrote Raj Sarkar on Twitter.

Actor Nate Barlow posted to his Twitter account: "Why #nbcfail ranks last: no better way to turn people off a new show than to preempt @thewho & other rock legends for it."

The network was under fire for much of the 16 days of the Games by viewers who took to Twitter and Facebook to complain about its tape-delayed coverage of big ticket events, which NBC has said was necessary to maximize its prime-time audience.

NBC to viewers: Shut up Peons! We'll decide what's good for you!

    BTW, Obama 2012! Forward!

NBC editing, as they see fit, shouldn't be any surprise to those music fans that lean to the right politically.

Effin' American television is amazingly disrespectful every damn time, just like in the 2004 Olympics, where Katie Couric and Bob Costas wouldn't stop jabbering inanely over Björk's performance. I guess they just don't think Americans have heard of any of these performers, or that they matter or could matter because they aren't "big" in the U.S. Screw NBC. Screw it hard.

NBC seems to get worse in presenting the olympics every time the games roll around. I can not wait to see how they butcher the 2014 winter games in Sochi, Russia with the time difference and the 2016 games in Brazil especially for those of us in the West Coast during the summer games in Brazil.

At least they didn't edit those tapes also.

I agree the coverage has deteriorated over the decades... I hear NBC plans to make the Winter games in Russia even worse – they are bringing back Katie Couric to snark, condescend and make-out with herself on camera like she always does.

Let's see: watch a new show or rehashed songs by a bunch of narcissistic has-beens. Tough one. The Who? Really? They gave up the ghost in 1969. George Michael? Boooorrringggg! Kate Bush? Well, ok, but really–get out of the house!

Look at it this way, the whole world is invited to a party but America has too leave because the product placement corporations said we've had enough. NBC failed hard in thier coverage of the olympics. They are run by the cream of the crop of the 1% and their regular and news programs have become political arms of the left. Ironic, eh?

What happened to ABC doing the olympics? They always did a super job and I don't remember many complaints. The show last night was a mess as far as I was concerned. I did not like it, but I am sure many did like it. It should not have been cut short for a lame new show. NBC shows, except Jay, stink in general and I do not watch. NBC just dpes not know what funny is.

NBC is a failed enterprise. Their finances and numbers continue to demonstrate and prove their ideological moves and actions are knee-jerk, ridiculous, and unreasonable.

If I was American, I would be much more annoyed that NBC showed most of its Olympic coverage tape delayed. I saw a number of events on CTV/TSN live in Canada, and the same event would often be shown hours later on NBC.

Don't complain to NBC. You're just a commodity (pair of eyeballs) to them. It's like a chicken complaining to Col. Sanders. We are what they sell. Instead, complain to the ADVERTISERS. They're the ones who are paying the freight. And if we're P.O.d they're the ones who need to feel the heat. They are also the ones that NBC listens to. So smack around the advertisers for wasting their money on NBC by alienating the viewers.

ZEPRIN, while your post to complain to the advertisers instead of NBC is a good one at first glance, it largely won't work in this case because I believe the biggest advertiser was GE (General Electric), NBC's parent company. GE, a company actively taking giant strides AGAINST the American worker by moving their manufacturing operations to China! Let's also not forget GE's polluting of our landfills with those crappy and POISONOUS CFC curly bulbs they've forced on us. Just ask the Germans what is happening to their landfills with mercury poisoning.

Don't buy GE products. Don't watch NBC either.

I like NBC's explanation for why they tape-delayed all of the primetime events. "It's the middle of the night in London." Right! Is that a fact? I'm sorry, has the Round Rotating Earth THEORY been proven all of a sudden? I know that this is what they teach in Government schools, but many of us in the moral community are not convinced. Even if it were true, the fact is that America saved England's rear end TWICE. Out of respect and deference for the U.S., they should have scheduled the important events to air live in American primetime. This is socialism, pure and simple!

Since the finaly of St. Elsewhere being cut off and the biased news and half truths they tend to speak, NBC couldn't care less about you, audience.

Once again the viewers are "outraged." My advice to the viewers is to save their outrage for more important things.
