Comments: Hunka' hunka' burning love for Elvis endures 35 years after his death

Editor's note: We're listening to you. Every day, we spot thought-provoking comments from readers. What follows is a look at some of the most talked-about stories of the day.

Sometimes readers ask about our stories. Today, a reader commenting on a story about a man accused of faking his own death happened to mention the 35th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death.

"How do they decide what article gets to be the top story? Today is the day Elvis died. Lisa Marie and Priscilla greeted the fans at Graceland today. Now this is not a lead story either but it's not even a story to CNN. I don't know ... sorry to complain."

Thanks for your comment, Guest. CNN affiliate WMC covered the Graceland event, and that story was put up on the entertainment page. If you really want to travel back in time, CNN iReport received numerous photos and videos about Presley in honor of what would have been Presley's 75th birthday in 2010.

But those aren't the only places you'll find Elvis on People have been talking about Presley all over the place.

Remembering the King: When Nixon met Elvis

The photo at the top recalls the 1970 meeting between Richard Nixon and Presley. The CNN Political Ticker took a look at the historic convergence. Here's what one reader had to say:

myviewis: "I like this part because it's 2012 and we are still having this problem with the flag losing respect and the country. Presley was adamant that he 'wanted to be helpful' and that he wanted to 'restore some respect for the flag which was being lost.' "

Meanwhile, reader Sniffit theorized that "Elvis is hiding in a trailer in Area 51" with various items and people. Hard to say for sure. There are plans in place to put together an Elvis hologram.

Yet another place you might find Elvis - granted, not a Presley - is at border crossings.

Meet Elvis: The virtual border official who knows if you're lying

University of Arizona researchers are developing a virtual kiosk that can tell if you're not being truthful, which could be useful for screening passengers. Officials are testing one of these AVATAR kiosks at Dennis DeConcini Port in Nogales, Arizona. Readers had a few interesting comments.

radbowler1: "Kiosk: Name three Elvis songs or you are not an American!"

HRPufnstuf: "Looks more like Ahhhnold than Elvis. Arnold is probably better at lie detection, too."

Supersam007: "This is the best invention I've ever seen. Every presidential candidate must pass Elvis test."

pmichner: "Elvis: 'I detect that you're lying because you look uncomfortable.' Person: 'I'm uncomfortable because I'm looking at your face, Elvis.' "

We also found readers talking about Elvis Presley on other stories on Thursday.

Ecuador grants asylum to WikiLeaks' Assange

One reader compared WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's situation to Elvis Presley. Assange has been holed up in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London since June.

calfmeat: "They've got a little apartment for him in there. Not such a bad life. Sort of like how Elvis lived out his final days. He can still do press releases and continue his work on starting WWIII. Nothing has changed."

Another reader expressed disagreement with the Silversun Pickups' decision to ask the Mitt Romney presidential campaign to stop using its music at rallies.

Campaigns rock at their own risk

The story had many readers talking about the political views of artists.

Steven Alvarado: "Elvis Presley had it right. When asked what his view was on the Vietnam War, his reply was, 'Why would anyone want my opinion on that? I am just an entertainer.' "

Do music and politics mix? In an entirely different musical genre, Insane Clown Posse has said it plans to sue the FBI for what it says was a move to label the band's fans a gang. Some readers suggested going after politicians instead.

iwlnilla: "I think it's about time the FBI label Republicans and Democrats as 'cause for concern.' "

Our readers were heavily divided on their views of the band and of the fans, who are called Juggalos. Turns out that even in the present musical era, when teens are able to listen to songs on YouTube, Elvis Presley still gets hips shaking.

tm1946: "Like my parents, grandparents and every generation, the current music is junk (and we) do not know what is wrong with the youth today. Give me Marvin Gaye, Beach Boys, Elvis, Tina Turner and the greats of the '60s. Now that is real music. Just kidding, don't have a fit, but it was the best music ever."

Your turn. Are you going to indulge in some "Jailhouse Rock" or "Love Me Tender" in honor of the King? Share your hunka' hunka' burning opinions in the comments area below and in the latest stories on Or sound off on video via CNN iReport.

My favorite song by Elvis was "Sus picious Minds".

I guess "Hey, You're Paranoid" doesn't have the same lyrical prose.

Fools Rush in (Where Angels fear to tread)
The tempo and haunting vocals hit my soul. 🙂
I remember the day he died, I was in my living listening to the families old console turn table/radio incased in a beautiful hutch like piece of furniture. My brother and his best friend Fred Rodgers (Flutter ... Flutter) lol, were up stairs. All the sudden with in 5 seconds of hearing the news, I hear both em in shock (AWWWW)
Anyhow, Thats just one of those songs that's a top five in my book.
    Good evening Nicole

What I say here vs. Elvis being a womanizing druggie, fat.
See? You have a smidgen of power here and you use it to kill the messenger and swoon the womanizer. And it must burn-up at least a calorie or two ignoring Bridas.

We have a smidgen of power here? Then get lost. It's not about you. It's about Elvis.
